So some of you guys might’ve seen my other thread about my ‘adventures in online dating’ where I talked about my encounter with the freemason. Now I think I’ve met a much more suitable young man, though we’ve only been chatting for a few days. He says that he comes from a big greek family and says he’s very active in his orthodox church. He seems pretty interested in me and in my faith journey as a formerly protestant gal who’s in RCIA. It’s very early on, but does anyone have any tips for approaching an Orthodox/Catholic relationship? He seems like a nice person, though we’ve yet to go on a first date.

Yes: don’t.

I say that as a Catholic convert who met and dated a GO man who also had a GO family and was active in his faith.

Very early in we identified that I was unwilling to be GO and he was unwilling to be Catholic. We both wanted to raise children in our own faith traditions. We both were active in our own parishes.

We talked and decided it was unwise for us to date knowing all the problems we would have if we married.

In addition to what 1ke said, there’s another thread running in this subforum at present with a similar situation 2 years down the road. Worth a read.

It can be hard for a younger person to realize that an older person that they are dating is immature. When I was several years younger than the OP, I was dating a 35/36-year-old guy, and it was only years later (when I myself was 35+ and marr…
