This thread is for any and all religious institutes who follow St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac. I read somewhere that there were 60 institutes (or more) who followed Vincentian spirituality. These institutes were founded after 1650.

They used to have a convent at a parish I belonged to and I made friends with some. They are lovely sisters. They are a bit different from other orders in that they take simple vows every year. There are also some in Evansville, Indiana and Emmitsberg, Maryland. I believe the big hat Sally Field wore in the “Flying Nun” TV series was a takeoff on their old habit–it was pretty similar. But now they have a simple short veil.

Oh, I love these Sisters. Sr. Blandina came to New Mexico and started many generations of children who loved these sisters.
I was educated by them, and LOVED them so much!
The Sister who taught me piano was named Sister Winifred Keyes,
I miss her so much, Rest in peace Sister Winifred!

❤️

Thanks for the list!

It is so interesting to see how each community varies in living out their vocation under the umbrella of Sisters of Charity.

Actually, a number of Charity communities take perpetual vows. The ones from NY and NJ, for example, as well as the Nazareths and Leavenworths. I believe it is only the Daughters who take annual vows.

Ulterior motives. :D. Trying to populate a list for our emerging Charity charism. I’m only one person and know of only about 20 of the 60 Vincentian communites/congregations worldwide. Was hoping for some help!
