Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Gospel for this Sunday continues the “Bread of Life Discourse” in John’s Gospel chapter 6. A Commentary from St. John Paul II on Eucharist:

…It is not by chance that the Eastern Anaphoras and the Latin Eucharistic Prayers honour Mary, the ever-Virgin Mother of Jesus Christ our Lord and God, the angels, the holy apostles, the glorious martyrs and all the saints. This is an aspect of the Eucharist which merits greater attention: in celebrating the sacrifice of the Lamb, we are united to the heavenly “liturgy” and become part of that great multitude which cries out: “Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Rev 7:10). The Eucharist is truly a glimpse of heaven appearing on earth. It is a glorious ray of the heavenly Jerusalem which pierces the clouds of our history and lights up our journey.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful. Kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. May our Mass and Holy Communion today be the most fervent of our lives thus far on this earth, and each time we participate in Eucharist may Holy Church give herself more truly to transformation into Christ. Mary, Mother of the Church, with all the saints and angels who await us in our heavenly home, pray for us!

Amen! I can especially relate to the invocation of the Spirit; I really need His guidance at this point in my life!

Thanks for your reply. I’m happy you can relate to the invocation of the Holy Spirit. Even more than Mary, our Mother, the Holy Spirit, sent to us from the Father and the Son to be our Sanctifier, is neglected and almost unknown in our world today! Sometimes, He may be misunderstood, as Our Blessed Mother is, too.

I’m rereading a book that has helped me a great deal in better appreciating the Holy Spirit: True Devotion to the Holy Spirit by the late Archbishop Martinez of Mexico. Even reading the Introductory pages given at the Amazon site will give you a sense of the beauty and depth. I read recently, this Archbishop’s cause for canonization is being introduced.

I’m reading it a second time, since it’s been my experience with just about any good book, I discover more in reading it a second time. Amazing how much we can miss on the first reading — or perhaps how much grace and growth God may have given us in between readings!
