Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today is the Feast of St. Maximilian Kolbe, great champion of Mary. Let us remember to pray for his intercession as we continue our journey today. I don’t know about anyone else, but yesterday was a good start and a blessing in many ways for me. Now, as I begin this 2nd day, I’m mindful of the psalm my husband and I prayed in this Morning’s Divine Office: Psalm 51.

Ps 51:12-14 is so appropriate for seeking to rid myself of the Spirit of the world:
…A clean heart create for me, God;
renew within me a steadfast spirit.
Do not drive me from before your face,
nor take from me your holy spirit.
Restore to me the gladness of your salvation;
uphold me with a willing spirit.
Any time we seek the Lord in prayer, you can be sure the evil one will come “prowling around, seeking to devour” (cf 1 Peter 5-7). Scripture tells us about his cunning ways especially when he lied to Eve (Gen 3: 1-4), and also his hatred for the offspring of Mary (cf Rev. 12:17). The evil one does not want us to see how he works in the world, continuing to deceive and confuse us who were created in the Image of God.

We need to resist him when he tempts us to become discouraged especially. When we begin to look at the spirit of the world and realize how often we have been willing to go along with that spirit and neglect God, we are rightly ashamed, but it is a grace to recognize truth from falsehood. When we see traces of the spirit of the world in our hearts, let us thank God for His Light and pray He will create a clean heart in us, purifying us and strengthening us with His grace. Let us continue to pray “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful. Kindle in us the fire of Your Love.” Fire is a purifying force. Let us not be afraid to open our Hearts wide to receive God Who is Love!
