Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today (Nov.27) is the half-way point in our preliminary period of “emptying ourselves of the spirit of the world which is opposed to the spirit of Jesus”.
Yesterday, on the Feast of Christ the King, I wondered how many took to heart the Mass readings and prayed for grace to seek even more earnestly to give themselves to Jesus through Mary, as St. Louis de Montfort explains in his treatise on True Devotion.
This coming Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent, and we will see the priest offer Mass wearing purple vestments. Purple is a “royal color” and it is also a color which denotes for us a time of penance. When we think of God’s Great Love for us on the Cross we see the Fullness of His love for us. His blood was poured out – He gave Himself to die a cruel death to set us free.
How can we cling to anything opposed to the spirit of Christ? How can we not want to receive His grace in order to love Him more? Let us continue to pray to the Holy Spirit that He may show us what the “spirit of the world is” and “how it opposes the spirit of Jesus” so that we may not love the world or the things of the world.
Today is the minor feast of Our Lady of the Miraculous medal. May our Mother and Model intercede for us. Jesus came to this world through Mary. By the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus dwelt in her womb.
