“Today bring to Me the Souls who are in the prison of Purgatory, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. Let the torrents of My Blood cool down their scorching flames. All these souls are greatly loved by Me. They are making retribution to My justice. It is in your power to bring them relief. Draw all the indulgences from the treasury of My Church and offer them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the torments they suffer, you would continually offer for them the alms of the spirit and pay off their debt to My justice.”
Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You desire mercy; so I bring into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls in Purgatory, souls who are very dear to You, and yet, who must make retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which gushed forth from Your Heart put out the flames of Purgatory, that there, too, the power of Your mercy may be celebrated.
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I beg You, by the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which His most sacred Soul was flooded: Manifest Your mercy to the souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them in no other way but only through the Wounds of Jesus, Your dearly beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Your goodness and compassion. Amen.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,

How Merciful is our God, and how tender are His words to St. Faustina in asking her to bring the different groups os souls to Him and to pray for them! He encourages us to have hearts of compassion; to become Meek and Humble of Heart before our Father and to become truly merciful as our heavenly Father is merciful. I hope many are praying this novena with St. Faustina.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

†

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

I have a question on Jesus’ request that we “Draw all indulgences from the treasury of My Church and offer them on their (souls in purgatory) behalf”.

I am doing the Marian Consecration by using Fr Gaitley’s book, “33 Days to Morning Glory”, and he says we should offer all our indulgences and graces to the Blessed Mother for her to use them as she sees fit.

How can I honor Jesus’ request and also give my graces and indulgences to the Blessed Mother?

Dear Irish Colleen,

No problem. I appreciate Fr. Gaitley’s book in that it encourages people to consecrate themselves totally to Jesus through Mary, but I encourage everyone to read the original source through which the consecration came : St. Louis de Montfort’s classic treatise on “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary”. I use both my own (inexpensive) paperback copy as well as the online version, so I can cut and paste excerpts for the internet. I have a copy of Fr. Gaitley’s book, but I continue to encourage all to read St. Louis De Montfort’s book as Pope St. John Paul did and as did Bl. Mother Teresa of Calcutta (who also encouraged her sisters to read and practice “True Devotion to Mary”) .

Paperback version can be purchased HERE and Online version can be read HERE

St. Louis De Montfort explains that Mary’s spirit is always united to Christ. We say Mary and she says God. We can with confidence do all that Jesus asks and know that Mary honors every request Jesus makes. Consider her words to the servants at Cana: “Do whatever He tells you”. Let me share these words of St. Louis De Montfort from “True Devotion”:
  1. Some may object that this devotion makes us powerless to help the souls of our relatives, friends and benefactors, since it requires us to give our Lord, through Mary, the value of our good works, prayers, penances, and alms-giving.
To them I reply:
(1) It is inconceivable that our friends, relatives and benefactors should suffer any loss because we have dedicated and consecrated ourselves unconditionally to the service of Jesus and Mary; it would be an affront to the power and goodness of Jesus and Mary who will surely come to the aid of our relatives, friends and benefactors whether from our meagre spiritual assets or from other sources.
(2) This devotion does not prevent us from praying for others, both the living and the dead, even though the application of our good works depends on the will of our Blessed Lady. On the contrary, it will make us pray with even greater confidence. Imagine a rich man, who, wanting to show his esteem for a great prince, gives his entire fortune to him. Would not that man have greater confidence in asking the prince to help one of his friends who needed assistance? Indeed the prince would only be too happy to have such an opportunity of proving his gratitude to one who had sacrificed all that he possessed to enrich him, thereby impoverishing himself to do him honour. The same must be said of our Lord and our Lady. They will never allow themselves to be outdone in gratitude.
Underlining is mine. Hope this helps. I made my total Consecration to Jesus through Mary when I was a teenager and I consider it one of the greatest graces God has given me. I will be renewing it next week on the Feast of St. Louis de Montfort, Apr. 28 🙂

Thank you, MariaChristi,

Your answer does help me. I have been doing the Consecration yearly for about six years now. I started with St Louis DeMonfort’s book first. I belong to a Women’s BIble Study at my parish and I first heard Fr Gaitley speak at our retreat and then again when he spoke at the parish when he and his team stopped by for an overnight.

Thank you again.

Dear irishcolleen,

Not everyone finds St. Louis De Montfort “easy” to read or to understand. The founder of the Legion of Mary said he had to read it about 6 times before he suddenly realized (by God’s Grace, of course) that what he was reading was true! You may be interested in reading his article about reading “True Devotion”. See HERE

Since you are “irishcolleen” you may appreciate Frank Duff’s Irish birth and his beginning the Legion of Mary in Dublin, Ireland. 🙂

Pope St. John Paul II also read the book more than once and both men wrote later, how reading St. Louis de Montfort’s “True Devotion” was a turning point in their lives. I’m glad to read you are also in a Bible Study. One of the things I so appreciate about St. Louis DeMontfort is that he is steeped in Scripture. Glad his words were a help to you.

I am aware that the founder of the Legion of Mary was born in Dublin. It saddens me that so many Irish are no longer practicing the Faith. I have first cousins there and I’m not sure if any of their children is a practicing Catholic.

Dear irishcolleen,

My niece’s husband was born in Ireland and is a faithful Catholic, as is she, but I grieve with you over the current state of affairs in Ireland. My niece’s husband’s faith is strong, but I doubt he ever heard of Frank Duff. The USA has some Irish Catholics who remain steadfast and some are in the Legion of Mary. Though born in NY both my maternal and paternal Grandparents were born in Ireland. My Mother’s ways were so “Irish” people thought she was born there! 🙂

I’m happy to learn that you knew Servant of God Frank Duff was born in Ireland. Are you familiar with the other Legion members whose causes have been introduced in Rome: Venerable Edel Quinn and Servant of God Alphonsus Lambe ? You may be blessed by reading about them – if you have not read about them already. See HERE

We need to pray for Ireland and for the world which is growing darker. O my Jesus, pardon us and save us from the fires of hell. Draw all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of God’s Mercy.

Jesus, I trust in You.
St. Faustina and St. Patrick, pray for us.
Our Lady of Knock, pray for us.
