DC books and the Jews

I was talking to a friend about the Deutercanonical books and said that at a jewish council that some of the Jews droped them (explaining why some jews have a slightly diffrent Old Testament). He didn’t beleive me saying “Prove it!” and why would they drop part of Sacred Scripture? I was sort of stomped and didn’t know how to responed. Is there anyone here that could lead me to the proper response? Thanks and God bless.

You really dio need to invest in The Beginning Apologetics Series of studies because almost everything you ask on here is answered in there somewhere.

You’re asking about the “council” of Jamnia (or sometimes called Javnia) which took place in 90 AD. There was some discussion about whether they considered Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon as canon, but the fact is that they had no authourity to set the canon for Jews or anyone else, since they were simply a rabbinical council. The reason for dropping the Deuterocanonical books from the Jewish canon was that they were felt to be too convenient for Christians.

Luther’s reason was that they were too convenient for Catholics.

Other justifications were of course given.
