We have a deacon in our parish in addition to 3 priests (One Pastor and two vicars). The deacon lead the procession with the paschal candle, sung "Christ our Light, sung the Exultet, read the gospel, and gave the dismissal. Our Pastor was the main celebrant along with one of the vicars, and we also had a visiting priest. At the end of the Eucharist Prayer, when the chalice and bread (paten) are elevated together, the main celebrant elevated the paten while the deacon elevated the cup.

I’m guessing you meant to ask a question, but I don’t see one here. 🙂 Yes, it is according to the rules for the deacon to have the chalice while the priest has the paten right when we all say Amen. I don’t recall that having other priests there changes that, though sometimes my memory fails. Although you did not mention it, the deacon probably also told the people to offer one another the sign of peace.

Yes, what the deacon did was correct. If you were to watch the Papal Masses, you will see that even though there are a plethora of Cardinal-concelebrants, it is the deacon who always holds up the chalice during the Doxology.

The deacon is the man of the Word and the Cup. His main jobs at the mass are to read the Gospel and be in charge of the Chalice.

Our Deacon did all of these things, too! 🙂
