In discerning my call to become a permanent Deacon, I keep reading that the Deacon is the minister of the cup. We see the in the mass when the Priest lifts up the host and the Deacon lifts up the cup. We also see this when communion is given that the Deacon will always handle the cup of the Precious Blood of Jesus.
My question is where can I find more information on the history of this and how the Deacon has been given this duty. It is more for an informational purpose than anything as I would just like to see how this all happened though history and church teachings.
Thanks… YBIC - John
