Wow, why judge? I don’t understand what the big deal is. Yes, are they ordained? Yes, but ordained in service. If your Deacon has fulfilled all of his duties why can’t he just ‘enjoy’ the Mass. Or is her possibly looking upon the Priest to get ‘ideas’ of how he may become a better public speaker.

I.

As an aside, I wonder if the Church should focus a bit more on fostering diaconal vocations of younger men. Instead of preparing sacred ministers that are in their 50s or 60s by the time they are ordained, maybe the goal should be candidates that are in their 30s and 40s at ordination. Men who have more energy and more time to serve Holy Mother Church.

God bless,
Hi Deacon Chris. I’m a 43 year old in Formation. Of course, we encountered one of the disadvantages, as we had children #'s 4&5 in close secsession, so I’ve stepped back from Formation for awhile ( still doing the academics).

You are quite correct in your assessment. Your points are exactly in order with how we are being trained. And hence why the need for me to step back for a few years.

Once Ordained, my place is at the altar, even if my wife desires me to be in the pews to help wrangle kids ;). Ontologically, I would be a different man than the one she married, with different obligations.
