My ex and i have been divorced now for 12 years, he is a deadbeat dad and 2 years ago decided he wanted to be in the childrens lives. So he started to visit with the boys now 14 and 11. In may i got a frantic call from both of them that they had been left home alone with his girlfriends 3 year old while the father and his girlfriend both went to work the 2 boys 14 and 11 had a fight and knives were involved. I rushed over to get my kids. that was at 530pm he never came home and i sat there till 9pm when the cell phone i had died so had no choice but to leave to go home and use a phone to call but took my son the 11 year old with me the 14 year old who has been brainwashed by the father because he can come and go as he pleases, has no rules, can view pornography ect refuses to come home with me. a few weeks later i get hauled into court and he is now trying to take both kids away from me. Upon getting to court i learn he has an open drug charge against him as well as other criminal charges, the judge does nothing about this. I have my 11 year old going to a catholic school he goes to church every Sunday with me. Yet i am somehow the bad parent here??? Can you tell me what is wrong with this picture??? Now i have to pay a psychiatrists $1600 to evaluate me and my kid so he can write a report to the court to say wether or not in his feels i am a fit parent or not. !!! OR IF MY EX HUSBAND who is a pagan with no beliefs should have the kids and i should pay him child support which he hasnt paid in 3 years. Now i know that in the end of days what is right will be wrong and what is wrong will be right and christians shall be persecuted and all. I just cant beleive that it is Gods will to take my son out of his church to put him in his fathers hands to undo the good i am doing in my son.

Oh, been there! Not the exact circumstances, but I’ve been hauled to court by my son’s father. It wasn’t pretty. I freaked out! But it turns out to be a very good thing for me. God used it to draw me closer to Him. All I can suggest is to get a very good lawyer and to pray hard. Even if you have to get counseling for yourself to stay calm, do it. This looks better for you in the long run.

Has the court appointed law guardians for your sons? Here in NY, that what the court does.
The court will take into consideration all of your ex’s history, even if they didn’t seem to at first.
Involve child protective–especially if your ex allows your 14 year old to see porn. That can be considered contributing to the delienquency of a minor or possibly sexual abuse.
