Happy New Year to all of you,

This is a question problably more for those experienced with menopause–the doctor says that estrogen therapy can be very helpful with menopause symptoms such as to strengthen vaginal walls and increase desire for sex. But she said there are possible side effects such as headaches. I have always been one to try to go the natural route and I wondered if anyone had insights on estrogen or natural products. The doctor did not seem to put much faith in black cohash at least for someone who is post menopausal. Thank you, 4 Jesus

Welcome to the world of no hormones. You won’t have to shave your legs very often, because all that hair goes to your chin! 😃

I am not a candidate for HRT because my mother had breast cancer. I’ve tried lots of OTC stuff, but the 2 products which gave me the best results are Rejuvex (vitamins, herbs), and a Phyto-estrogen cream from Arbonne (sold like Avon). For personal matters such as dryness, there are some good subs out there that are not messy at all. If you find the solution to insomnia, I’m all ears!🙂

Welcome to the downside of womanhood. 😦 I’ve been on HRT for 9 years and will never give it up as long as my doctor continues to proscribe it for me. I had a terrible time physically and emotionally for the 6 months between the onset of symptoms and getting on the HRT. Crying, depression and those awful flushes that happened 20 to 24 times per day. Admittedly, I had a worse time than many I know. My SIL takes the black cohash but she only had flushes maybe twice a day and no emotional problems. I really think it depends on the degree of misery and what your doctor suggests. My sister never took anything but she looks 10 years older than she is and her spine is collapsing so I believe she SHOULD have taken something. As far as the increase in desire; for me, forget it. Never happened. And the insommnia never dissapated either. But I’m sure it’s different for everyone.
Sorry to paint such a crummy picture. This is only my personal experience.

Thanks much to Detroit Sue, Monica fan, catsrus, and KCT for the replies. Why is it there was so much support in magazine articles, advice, etc for us women when we were going through pregnancy, childbirth, etc, but in this menopause madness I feel all alone. Thanks for the advice. I looked up some of the products you mentioned and sent for the “survival kit” Waiting for it to come.

In the meantime tho, I feel a stress between my hub and me. HE has no diminished desire quite the contrary, and it is hard for me to talk about to him. He has some personal emotional problems and alienation with the church I shared about in another thread. He feels bad about himself if he feels he’s the only one with the disire for physical intimacy and he feels I can take it or leave it. And I hate to tell him that I have l;ittle desire. I feel like I’ve read in other posts how important it is for a wife to be the physical support for a man. I’m sure all men have different desire levels too. Mine seems to have his share! perhaps from his alienation from others in the church it puts more pressure on our relationship to be fulfilling ( on just a meeting emotional needs level). And he has had a history of some pyscological problems, he thinks from being abused as a child. We have been to counselors. He does not want to go back. And for the last few years he’s been spending a lot of time with T.V. (He’s always been more into that than I’ like, I hate for the kids to be getting that habit. We don’t have cable and have a block on the tube which drives them crazy but still alot of time on T. V. drives me crazy. Seems like a waste of time. Nagging does’t help. causes arguments. want to be committed to being a good wife and mother as much as I can. as I believe that is what God wants.
So I’d appreciate any prayers or suggestions you might have. I thank Jesus for His Body working through Catholic answers forum. In His Name, 4Jesus P, S. Sorry ot took me so long to answer. It is hard for me to get time to post tho I love the forum. Taking care of my elderly Mom as well as my family keeps me busy. I need to pray to prioritize. and organize better. One of hubs pet peeves–He, like me to be more scheduled. Thanks, and 4 and in Jesus PSS One thing That I found for insomnia as some of you asked bout it is and herb valerian, sleepy time and othe herbal teas and a drink of wine before bed also helps to relax.

It was a relief to my dh to know that at certains times of the month my desire is very low. He knows it’s not him! —KCT

Hi…

I know where you are coming from. That is totally how I have felt. I am using bio identical hormones and have been for 2 years. The supplements and vitamins just didn’t help. You can go to www.power-surge.com . It is a community of women who feel just like you. They have a message board and an ask the experts page. You can also call their Pharmacy and talk to the Pharmicist. He will give you some suggestions to present to your doctor. If you don’t have a doctor who prescribes bio identicals then he can give you a name close to your area. Synthetic HRT is not good for you but from what I have read the bio identicals are like your own body makes.
Hope this helps.

monica fan:
Go to menopauserx.com/ and you can order a free “survival kit” filled with all kinds of helpful things.
Because of your link, I ordered this kit. It is awesome! Couple good sized samples of OTC remedies, coupons, & pamphlets. Great link you posted! Thanks!

Thank you so much for letting me know, Sue. I’ve wondered if I am inivisible in these forums. Now that they have your address they will be sending you more coupons and stuff that helps keep the cost down.
