What is the significance of the repeat of the deaths of baby boys in the Old (around the time of Moses) and New (the time of Jesus) Testament?

With Moses - there are two things (a) Pharaoh orders the male Israelites babies to be killed, but Moses escapes this fate, and then there is (b) the final plague which kills the firstborn of the Egyptians.
I think the New Testament story of Herod ordering the death of baby boys after he hears of Jesus’ birth could be related to (a) above, Moses being an important predecessor of Jesus (many of Jesus’ miracles, etc are also prefigured in stories of Moses or Elijah) (b) is the origin of Passover, which is also significant in the Gospels, but I’m not sure if it’s related to the killing of baby boys in the New Testament, except insofar as (b) is turnabout for (a) in Exodus.

One precedent even before the mass murder of children in the time of Moses and the time of Jesus Christ can be seen in the era of Sargon the Great, who was among those children slated for death because his mother was an EN, literally the office of “grace” or woman of grace. These women, these gyne/gwena/queens, not to be confused as the opposite of kings–kingship was from the heterodox culture–were the orthodox bearers of God’s mandate for the Woman & Seed to be perpetually at war with Satan and his seed. The male ruler was the husband of the EN, and managed her lands and property. EN-ship was the reason so many rulers wanted to marry the EN, Sarah; the reason Hel-EN of Troy was coveted; and the reason Solomon soaked up so many wives as if to insure he had all bases covered.
To distill this, one simply asks, WWSD? What would Satan (and his seed) do? What would Satan and his seed, cursed by God with the Woman & Seed, do? Then as today, the answer to the question WWSD? is of course vanquish their foe, the Woman & Seed. In the misnamed “patriarchal revolution” (because there were orthodox patriarchs who upheld the Woman & Seed system with heterodox men doing the obverse) extant in abortion and female oppression today, women/EN’s/queens were turned into temple prostitutes to have sex with strangers; their husbands were killed or enslaved, and their children were put to death. The temple prostitute was the Sophia character in The DaVinci Code who, at the end, was ensconced in the shack out back to have sex with strangers. That’s the explanation for the weird finale. Sargon was slated for death as the son of an EN, but she put him in a little boat-like basket as did Moses’ mom (so the wild dogs wouldn’t eat the baby, dingo-wise), and sent him off into the irrigation system, where the master irrigation engineer, a high office held by an astute man, raised him. True to form, Sargon conquered a vast area, and created an empire ruling over those bad guys headquartered in Ur of the Chaldees, literally city of the Chaldees, or Chaldee City (not “Ur” as it is sometimes called, which just means “city”).
Sargon the Great declared his daughter an EN. She was named EN-Heduanna, the first credited author whose works are preserved in her prayers to an ancestor that was probably Mrs. Noah. Mr. & Mrs. Noah were a big noise in the ancient world, and their family name root “N” may be where we get EN. The bad guy high priest from Ur of the Chaldees, Lugalan, tried to rape EN-Heduanna to seize by force what he could not have with her consent, control over her EN-ship. This hotbed of heterodoxy, Ur of the Chaldees, is of course the very place God commanded Abram to flee with his wife Sarai centuries later.
The Woman & Seed system is why Abraham and Sarah, although having the same father, were not considered related, and therefore able to legally wed. Sarah and Abraham had different mothers! So attenuated was the Woman & Seed system that lineage was accounted only through the woman as it is with Hebrews today. God rebalanced this by having Abraham on the same plane as Sarah, with his child by Hagar, Ishmael, blessed to multiply though ever warlike. Yet Ishmael was not to receive the special promise given to Isaac, the seed of Sarah the EN and Abraham.
The rest of God’s Woman & Seed system is hiding in plain sight as elucidated in Savinah Teubal’s misnamed book, Sarah the Priestess (dealing with the office of EN, not “priestess”) with inheritance going to the youngest, as with King David. The foreign king system was something demanded by the people against God’s advice as voiced through the prophet Samuel, whose mother, Hannah, was called “blessed above women.” The person of the Virgin Mary made universal this eternal enmity against Satan and his minions as having been declared “blessed among women,” exalting the female gender, uplifting all women as uniquely targeted by Satan and his followers and for whom Hell awaits. Woman having her child slated for death is not an historic curiosity it is a central strategem of the demoncrats, to coin a term, as led by the Father of Lies and Murder. Immaculate Heart of Mary and Sacred Heart of Jesus, reign and rule all.

They are parallel events
The death of the baby boys in Egypt, was averted to allow Moses the Lawgiver to come to his people and save them from the slavery of Egypt.
The death of the innocents, was averted to allow Jesus, the fulfillment of the Law to come to his people (all who believe in him) and same them from the slavery of Sin.
The prefiguring is always less significant than the fulfillment.
For example
→ through the Red Sea to be saved from pharaoh
. . .–> through baptism to be saved eternally
→ manna from heaven to feed Israel for a day
. . . → True bread from heaven (Jesus and the consecrated bread) to feed us for eternal life.

That is very interesting, NORDSKOVEN. I had heard some of that in a bible study called Scripture From Scratch with Elizabeth McNamer and Virginia Smith. But they only referenced it in passing.
