One of the things that confused me when I was Baptist was the joy certain people took in proclaiming who was in hell and who wasn’t. The better a person was morally, the more glee that was taken in annoucing that person was in hell. Gandhi is a good example. I’ve sat through a sermon where the pastor took almost psychotic delight in telling us that Gandhi and Mother Theresa might have been good, kind, noble people but that they were burning in hell because works don’t get you to heaven. There is no room in this kind of thinking for invincible ignorance or the humble belief that you can’t judge another’s salvation. This whole attitude sickened me. It just seemed so unChristlike and uncharitable.
This is to me a constant source of amazement. I think these folks want part of their heaven to be getting to watch the souls of the damned in Hell.

And illogical. I would think God designed us with an intellect and logic we can trust. Just to think that Mother Theresa or Pope John Paul II are not in Heaven (I can’t say the other thing in this context) is not only theologically obsurred it is illogical. To believe such a thing would confuse matters of salvation to such a degree as to render it incomprehendable.

We don’t need Catholic doctrine to witness the non-sense here. All one needs is to exercise the love God implanted into our hearts to know this is simply ludicrous. And anyone who would concur with it is denying that love.

I am one of those misguided catholics that has been poorly catechised. I dont know why catholics do some of the things they do…maybe on i am on my journey home.
We so hope that you are on your way home JOL! Please check for a good R.C.I.A. program near to you. You will learn all you never knew about The Church and can ask all the questions you want.

well what can you expect from a non catholic site? Just pray for these people.

By the way i am just curious, why is it that the non catholics always say bad things to other religion? Is it because they want others to be saved or they just want to dominate the world with their religion? You know “the higher the population the better the income”
