Patriarch Pavel of Serbia passed today. I served in the province of Kosovo and Metohija for two years with the American Army and worked with the Serbian Orthodox Church for the preservation of their holy sites, in legal battles to reclaim stolen property, and for the return of their people to their villages. The Church was always warm and welcoming to me and others, and I loved Visoki Decani, the Pec Patriarchy, and Gracanica. I went to divine liturgy for Easter in 2007 and it truly was beautiful.
May God rest the soul of his faithful servant and I pray for the visible unity between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches.
