Dear Brothers and Sisters,

There is a Providential “Confluence” of Feasts today: It is the Feast of the Holy Family – and because it falls on a Sunday the Liturgy of this Feast supplants the Memorial Feast of St. John the Beloved Disciple. It is a beautiful “confluence” by God’s design - as joining these two feasts can help us to understand Jesus better!

In the Holy Family we ponder the humility of Jesus,
who chose the Father’s Will in everything, to be conceived by the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit – and become like us in everything but sin. The Word of God became Flesh for us that He might die for us on the Cross and make perfect reparation for the Original sin and every sin committed by the human race. Jesus was obedient to Mary and Joseph as Eve and Adam were not!

If we are to understand Jesus better - it seems to me - this Feast enables us to ponder especially His loving humility and obedience to His Father in Heaven and to His parents on earth. He “emptied Himself” as the Scripture tells us in Phil. 2:7 and as St. Louis de Montfort wrote in his Prayer of Total Consecration.

St. John the Beloved Disciple helps us understand Jesus better in his Gospel , in his letters and in his writing of the last book of the Bible, The Book of Revelation. If we are to understand Jesus we need to listen to Jesus and listen to St. John the disciple in his Gospel. John learned from Jesus and also from Mary after Jesus ascended into heaven: Mary pondered all Jesus said and did. John obeyed Jesus’ words: “Behold your Mother” and took Mary into his life.

By God’s Grace, let us ponder these two ways in which we can understand Jesus better , that is by Listening to Him in His Word and in His Saints, most especially as He reveals Himself through Mary whom He gave to us from His Cross and also through the Righteous St. Joseph, protecting Mary and the Christ Child.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful. Kindle in us the Fire of your Love. Enable us by Your grace to ponder the Holy Family and come to understand Jesus better. Help us to hear with the ears of our hearts, all St. John the Beloved Disciple heard from Jesus and like John let us obey Jesus’ Words to us.

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. St. Joseph, Protector of Jesus and Mary, pray for us. St. John the Beloved Disciple, pray for us. Jesus, we trust in You! We thank You for sending the Holy Spirit to bring us into all Truth!

Dear Greenfields,

Thanks so much for your “heart” on this beautiful Feast of the Holy Family. May the Lord bless you and your family.

How Good God is to us, in giving us His Word in Scripture to reveal Himself and His love for us! How sweet to ponder all He tells us in His Word and also showing us holy men and women who live the Truth they hear from Him.

The Holy Family is such a an example, as are St. John the Beloved Disciple and St. Louis de Montfort who lived the Truth they heard and then wrote to share God’s Wisdom with us. May we continue to pray, please, for one another, for the Church and for all those in most need of His Mercy.
