Thomas Jefferson, author of Declaration of Independence, used verbage of Jesuit Priest and Jurist Francisco Suarez in the aforementioned document.

For instance, Inalienable rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness were taken directly from Suarez. This was not Jefferson’s own phrasing.

No, a Jesuit wasn’t the author, he just provided inspiration or source material for the actual author.

Thank you for sharing the source date. I heard Father Spitzer discuss the theological underpinnings of Jefferson’s work but couldn’t remember the date when I went searching on the internet. It was a fascinating talk and look forward to listening a second time.
