Deeming my Marriage a Catholic Union

I am currently married, legally through the state. Yet, I want to deem my marriage a Catholic union. I have been a Catholic since my baptism when I was an infant. My husband was raised a Catholic, but not until recently did we find out that he was never baptized. Being married in the Catholic church is very important to me, as well as to my husband. How can we go about getting married as Catholics, instead of just legally married? And what steps does he need to go through to finalize his Catholicism.

Contact your local parish - are you currently attending Mass on a regular basis? Contact the parish and make an appointment with the Parish pastor. Tell him what’s up. Your husband will need to go through RCIA and be baptized. The Pastor can guide you both in terms of what is needed to have your marriage blessed in the Church. What a wonderful opportunity for both of you! WELCOME HOME!!!

visit your pastor, explain the situation, if there are no impediments (previous marriage for either of you for instance) your marriage can be blessed. That does not have to wait until your husband receives the sacraments. If that is what he wants, he can enter RCIA program as soon as possible, but that need not delay your marriage. Welcome home. Have you been confirmed? If not you can probably prepare for that at the same time your husband is attending classes. God is waiting to shower you with blessings through these wonderful sacraments, so please do not delay.

My husband and I were in the same situation you were in. I was the one that was never baptized. I went through the RCIA program at our church, and finished everything earlier this spring. Now we are a catholic family! Contact your priest or rectory for more info.
