A family friend & former Catholic who is on my Facebook feed is once again posting virulently anti-Catholic rhetoric - stating that the Catholic Church is Luciferian. Her mother is dying & someone offered to pray the Rosary - she went off about the Rosary being linked to witchcraft - that the Catholic Church ceased to be Christian at the time of Constantine, etc. And the most recent scandal has fueled her hatred of the Church. I generally don’t respond & unfollow her posts when she does this, but how do you defend against this.

So, I’d say it’s probably best to say, “I’ll pray for the person,” and leave the how out of it!

Regarding anti-Catholic bashing, maybe recommend they try asking Catholics to explain what they believe and why they believe it! Right?

The important thing is not so much what you say, but how you say it. Be kind and respectful and use smiling emogies when appropriate. And avoid arguing. What works for me is to ask simple questions and listen and try to understand what those who answer have to say. People will be impressed more by your attitude than by your logic. Once impressed, they might actually listen for a change and see how reasonable the Catholic faith really is!

Hope that helps! 🙂

So how about this for a response: "Love you & I know your heart is for Jesus. I understand that you may have read or experienced things that led you to believe these things about the Catholic Church. What you learned about Catholicism from Catholics, you learned as a child, with a child’s mind. It might be helpful to read, as an adult, what Catholics think about these things - even if you disagree. May I suggest: Rome Sweet Home by Scott Hahn or Why We’re Catholic by Trent Horn. As for me, I stand on the promises of Christ: Matthew 16:18 & Matthew 28: 19-20. Christ founded the Church - the gates of Hell will not prevail. He promised to be with us until the end of time; And Luke 22: 31-32. Satan desires to topple the Church; but Christ Himself will strengthen us. Now, let you & me reason things out, pray for each other & work on the things we agree on: the end of abortion, stopping human trafficking and defending Religious Liberty. "

Sounds good! He’ll probably say no to reading anything written by a Catholic, but others seeing your reply might check the resources out. 🙂

So, if you’re up for it, you might add something to the effect that if he wants to discuss any of the biblical passages with you, you’re open to that, but you don’t want to argue. If he makes any points you can’t immediately respond to, just say that he asked a good question and you’ll do some research and come back with an answer. You can then come here and seek advise from someone on the forum.

NO ONE is a better teacher than Jesus. Yet most of His disciples, even seeing His miracles, refused to accept what He was teaching them. And even to His face, they refused His teaching AND They walked away from Him

IMV one of the scariest passages in scripture, Jesus didn’t go after them. He let them go.

If your friend has been given answers but won’t accept them, then that’s the power of free will AND in extension the power of consequences both good and bad for the individual

These are the things she believes:
  • The Vatican has actual underground Luciferian practices and sacrifices. They wear red shoes to signify cannibalism … it’s completely Luciferian now…
  • The Pope is New World Order and possibly one of the last 2 mentioned in Revelations. That’s why the world has embraced this pope because the World has always hated God and loved sin and the book of revelations explicitly says even the churches will no longer be churches of God but will fall away to doctrines of demons and the people will embrace it under one new world order. This is just the beginning.
  • While there may be Protestant abuse of kids and Christian charismatic churches with kundalini Hindu demons manifesting as the Holy Spirit, the Catholic Church is the forerunner of the churches coming under one new world order under Lucifer
To me, this is completely crazy & she never gives a source except her own interpretations of the Book of Revelation - but you can find enough of it on anti-Catholic sites including YouTube

You don’t. Smile and say good day, and move on to something positive in life. People with these views cling to them because to them it is part of their identity.

Geez, I wonder if I know her. I’ve been through this before. Ask why Constantine. Ask how the rosary is linked to witchcraft. You can’t defend the faith if you don’t know what she is attacking.

Geez, this sounds like the know nothing movement of the 1800s United States, they were big into this type of stuff. I didn’t know they were still hanging around.

The person’s mother is dying. This is not the time for an Apologetics session with the daughter who is trying to cope.

Hide the offending posts or unfollow the person till they calm down. Pray for her and her mom but don’t let her know you’re doing it and God who sees in secret will take care of it.

Be kind to the person when you encounter her. Ask if there’s any practical help she needs at this point or if she just needs a shoulder to cry on about Mom’s impending death.

Leave the religion issue alone.

@DiZent, you won’t get any better advice than that of Tis_Bearself, this side of Heaven. The lady is most likely beside herself with grief and worry at this emotionally stressful period in her life. If you pray the rosary daily, I would recommend that you should devote one rosary a week to to the intentions of this lady and her mother. God be with you.

I would pray for both of them, but unfollow or unfriend her.

Your friend is essentially calling no you and all Catholics satanists. I would certainly tell her how offensive this is. If she continues, then you’ll know how little she cares about your friendship. Mutual respect is a must.

There’s no need for your to be put on the defensive. She, not you, should carry the burden of her statements.
