What about just letting it touch your lips? is this sufficient?
Well, you still need to lick It off and swallow, you can’t just let It air dry on your lips or wipe It off later…

Most people take a tiny sip anyway, not a swig or a gulp.

I receive regardless - being pregnant or nursing doesn’t matter and if others have a problem with it then they’ve forgotten Who It is you’re receiving.

Also, intinction (the practice of dipping the Host into the Precious Blood) is not allowed by the laity in the Roman Rite as far as I know.
Actually it varies from diocese to diocese. For example, the Diocese of Washington DC does not allow it because there’s a chance of the precious blood dripping on the floor.

It’s sufficient to not even take the chalice. The Host, itself, is Our Lord in total.

That said, try to relax about getting/being pregnant. A sip of alcohol once a week isn’t going to hurt the baby if you feel so inclined to receive the chalice. A sip of wine wouldn’t hurt daily. Your baby won’t get fetal alcohol syndrome from this.

When I’m handling our toddler I bypass the Precious Blood to avoid him possibly acting out and spilling/making me spill the Precious Blood. But when hubby is with me, I always receive the Precious Blood. I love to pray to Jesus right after receiving the Precious Blood for Him to consecrate my unborn baby to Himself with His Blood. Think about it–the Precious Blood goes into your bloodstream and into your little baby! And so does the Holy Eucharist 🙂

I think walking past someone who is smoking in public, or breathing the fumes on the highway is infinitely more harmful to your baby (since it has pretty much been established that the fraction of a teaspoon you receive at Communion is *not *harmful). Actually, I truly believe it is beneficial. My first baby would “leap in the womb” when I received Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and Precious Blood. I’m sure the babies are given special graces when their mommies receive Holy Communion. Your body is turned into a mini adoration chapel for them!

Tar a tiny amount of alcohol will not hurt your (future) baby at all but you can always refrain from the precious blood (and self intinction-dipping the host in the precious blood is not acceptable) if your not comfortable.

It’s so cute to see you so excited about becoming pregnant. You’ve got “baby syndrome” big time. 🙂 You remind me alot of my self when we were trying to conceive. I read every book out there on pregnancy, child developement, parenting, nutrition ect. I gave up all sugar and caffeine, and became a complete health nut. I wanted to do the best I possibly could for our future child.

I was unbelievably excited I had all the crib bedding and even some other baby stuff purchased before I was even pregnant. Try not to stress out too much, enjoy this time it’s very special.

Haha! Thanks Rayne! to be honest I feel a little silly and I just keep reminding myself not to get my hopes up or to get to excited, but OH MY GOSH i just cant help it!

I took the Blood every time I received Communion (usually once per week, unless I hadn’t been able to get to Reconciliation) when I was pregnant with my daughter and she was perfectly fine. 🙂

Edit: Whoops, didn’t realize this was such an old thread! Sorry!

What you are recieving is no longer wine it is the blood of our Lord and I am confident that his blood will never ever harm your baby.

But the accidents of bread and wine remain, so it would be entirely possible to get drunk on the precious blood if one were to drink copious amounts of it.

The main point is that even an occasional glass of wine is not likely to harm an unborn babe, much less a weekly sip of the precious blood. And if you’re still scrupulous about it, there is no requirement to receive under the form of wine, since Christ is present body, blood, soul and divinity in the host as well. Even if a communicant receives ONLY the host, or ONLY the precious blood, one is still receiving the WHOLE Jesus. 😉
