How would you define apologetics? Is there a major purpose to apologetics? What is the most eficacious way to engage in apologetics?
love the person with whom you are in dialogue. What is the most eficacious way to engage in apologetics?
An “apologia” is a legal defense (under Roman law.) There were early Christians who undertook the legal defense of Christianity (which was classed as religio deprava – a depraved or forbidden religion.) Justin (Martyr) is a good example of a Christian Apologist. How would you define apologetics? Is there a major purpose to apologetics? What is the most eficacious way to engage in apologetics?
A previous post gave the formal definition, but I find that I engage in apologetics in two arenas. First, I have tried to become more knowledgeable in my faith because I feel that the Lord has called me to reach out to the many Catholics who: 1) go to Mass every Sunday and yet have no real relationship with Christ and do not know their faith; 2) do not go to Mass and are otherwise unchurched; and, 3) grew up in the Church and are searching for the truth. How would you define apologetics? Frustration is an emotion – be careful about letting it show.I get very frustrated when I see people criticizing Catholics over a misunderstanding.
