Hi,

I am a convert and I have some question about deleting old immoral (porn) content from my computer.

I used to travel a lot and I used to take a lot of photos from my trips. I had all the photos inside one single folder. Together with this photos I had some immoral ones of myself and my ex-girlfriend. After my conversion I have stopped looking inside the folder, because I was afraid of the immoral photos.

Some relatives came to visit me and I was really afraid they would ask me to show then the photos, because I have visited the town of some old relatives. So I have decided to deleted the immoral photos. I prayed and carefully deleted then, trying to keep my eyes as far as possible from a great contact with then.

Now I am afraid I did something wrong, I think I was putting myself in near occasion of sin, but I think it was necessary.

Maybe I should have just deleted the entire folder, without searching for the sinful photos. But then my relatives would probably know that my ex- girlfriend and I have done something sinful, it would probably affect our good name. I don not know if I’ve done the correct thing.

I also feel myself somehow extremly attached to the good photos. They are somehow part of my life! If I had to delete then, how could I have a valid confession if I do not have the strength now just to erase everything? Would it be necessary as some kind of penance?

Second question: is this attachment mortal sin?

It sounds like you may be overthinking this a bit. Talk to your priest if you tend towards scrupulosity.

If you viewed them to delete then that isn’t a sin. If you viewed them to delete but also stared at them and took some pleasure from them, I would confess it. Intent matters.

For example, did you make the photos full screen before deleted them? Or did you leave them thumbnail size and delete? I don’t need to know the answer but if you truly opened the folder to delete them I don’t think you ahve anything to worry about.

I did not open then. I just scrolled down very slowly and as soon as I noticed it was a sinful photo I just pressed the delete button.

Hi, I would like to hear more opinions from you people. Thanks.

This sounds like scruples. You should speak to your pastor.
