In my parish, on “mother’s day”, the priest always asks mothers to “stand up”. I can no longer do that. My daughter, severely mentally ill and despite enormous effort on my part, succeeded suicide on March 2, 2011. I don’t know what I am any more. So I do not stand up.

I was thinking today that I would just not attend Mass tomorrow and then I realized: I am blocking the grace of God Whom has gotten me this far, and I am dishonoring His purpose in my life. I can’t do this. So I will be at Mass tomorrow and when the “mothers” stand up, I will not. I would have given my life for hers; in fact, I almost did. I don’t know what God intended when He gave me this cross to bear (although I was warned at age five), I only know that I am going to carry it. When I see this, and I remember that he was asked why he didn’t resign from the Papacy due to his enormous suffering and his answer was, “No one comes down from this cross”, it gives me courage, it fortifies my strength, and it helps me to be more obedient to God’s purpose for me, even though I cannot fully comprehend it in this lifetime.

Should you decide to stand, you will stand with Mary, Monica, Anne, and all the mothers in glory.
I hope the experience at Mass tomorrow is a good one for you.

And remember, Our Lady loves you, and understands your pain.
 
When the priest asks you to stand, stand together with Our Blessed Mother at the foot of the Cross, even if you feel you can’t quite stand because you are indeed a mother. Give this suffering over to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus in that moment.

Please don’t skip Mass today, that’s not the solution.
 
Attend Mass and stand for the blessing. You are a mother no matter what. Best wishes and prayers… :flowers:
 
I think you are stil a mother, your daughter while now in heaven, is still your child. Pray for Gods mercy for your daughter and for yourself. Be tender and merciful to yourself. We mostly don’t know why we suffer so, but offering it up to Jesus does give it some meaning and that can help.
Mother Mary I ask you to pray for Povero for her care and comfort from our Lord. Mother Mary you know the suffering of a mother please help Povero as she goes through her suffering.

There is another mother there tomorrow at Mass and that is Mary. She is not only Jesus’ mother but your mother as well. Why don’t you stand up for her tomorrow, and with her tomorrow for your daughter and offer that blessing the priest gives for your daughter?

But do what you feel comfortable with. And give your self time.

May God bless and keep you. May God’s face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.
 
You are still a Mother & always will be. You will not be standing alone. Mother Mary will be standing with you as she will be standing with all Mothers. God bless you. Praying for the repose of your daughter’s soul.
 
Thank you ALL! Your prayers mean a great deal to me. I did come to the conclusion that Mammon Marie is the true meaning of “mother’s day”. I’ve been to Lourdes twice and Fatima once, I have become very attached to St. Bernadette. I will stand, for my Mammon, and for my daughter. Thank you, again.👍
 
Your still a mother. Go to mass and be blessed
Remember mother Mary at the foot of the cross.
