What is the Catholic position on this? Jimmy Akin also suggests the possibility Mary was descended from David and I think I read the same thing from one of the CAF apologists.

You are forgetting the apologists are just speculating about Mary. They don’t know.

However, it is a FACT that the lineage of Jesus to the house of David is through Joseph.
