Hi,
I’m an artist trying to represent Our Lord since years. And even if this is not the most important aspect that we have to focus on for our salvation, I’m in love with Jesus and trying to represent him as he was. I’ve already looked at the shroud of Turin and the Divine Mercy image.
My question is :
Do you have quotes or sayings from catholic mystics describing Jesus physically ?
Thanks.

(except Maria Valtorta or the historical descriptions of Jesus)

On the DivineMercy Website today, father spoke about this during their preview show before Mass. I never knew this, but St. Faustina had commissioned a painter to depict Jesus as she had seen him in her vision, but he had to repaint it a dozen times to meet her criteria. Father explained that when the final image is placed over the image on the shroud of Turin, the facial features are identical. This is the image they said matches that on the shroud.

There are only two Vatican-approved apparitions of Jesus, and one is Divine Mercy apparitions to St. Faustina and the other is the Sacred Heart apparitions to St. Margaret Mary. I am not aware of St. Margaret Mary ever writing or otherwise giving a description of Jesus’ physical looks.

I’m aware of at least one unapproved private revelation that resulted in a picture of “how Jesus looked” but we are not allowed to post material from unapproved private revelations.

Thanks for the response, I’m also aware of those apparitions.

Have you maybe try to make your own realisation?
Which techniques do you use?

Yes St Bridget of Sweden has in her revelations where the Virgin Mary tells us what Jesus looks like in her books, I have not read the longer book yet but the excerpt says (and I will stick to things that will help an artist being one myself also I am a rubbish typist)… large, not fleshy, but of large frame and muscle. His hair, eyebrows and beard were of light brown, His beard a hands width long. His forehead not prominent or retreating but erect. His nose moderate, neither small nor large; His eyes were so pure that even His enemies delighted to look upon Him; His lips not thick but clear red. His chin was not prominent or over long but graceful in beautiful moderation. His cheeks modestly fleshy, His complexion clear white and red. His being erect and His whole body spotless. He was perfect in manly strength and stature.

Nice!
Have you ever tried to work mosaic technique or something with glass, or maybe oil on canvas? Because from I own experience I could express some figures just in some type of art and it gives special effect when finished. Stained glass is beautiful for religious art. I know one priest who makes beautiful religious art pieces in glass, oil on canvas but I’m not allowed to post links of pics of since it is connected to private relevations.

Thanks a lot ! That is what I was looking for. Would you have the exact reference (book, chapter…) so I can look at the passage in my language ?
Thanks !

I’ve recently began oil painting and it’s great (but not that easy 😉 ). I’m planning to paint passages of the life of Our Lord realistically with oil paint or watercolor.
Could you then send me a private message with a photo of what this priests makes ?
Thanks.

That’s great 😃
Yeah I will send you for 5 minutes.

Yep, the book is ‘Revelations of St Bridget on the Life and Passion of Our Lord and the life Life of His Blessed Mother’. By TAN publications. ChpXII pg36 Its a tiny book as its just excerpts from the larger books of her revelations. There are other descriptive words especially in the passion, but really just a word here and there.
