Ok, a lot of talk on Desperate Housewives, I had to see it myself for the first time last night. I don’t feel I can comment on something I never seen(had sister give me a little backround, but forgive me if I don’t remember character names) I saw no bed hopping, a couple of funny parts, like, woman named Susan in station wagon and a trashy looking thing in blonde hair on roller skates bragging about being with susan’s ex, Susan accidently runs over woman. (not hurt just pride)–Grieving mother and “school marm type” widow slaps mother, not funny but seems to fit into charaters of both women. Mean looking guy in Jail and wife (who looks at least 15 years younger then him)who had affairs (Gabrielle) arguring over money asks wife to “pay off” some guy’s girlfriend so he won’t beat him up, so she gives woman money, but the other woman doesn’t want money because its for a breast job. The best and funniest part is the married couple with kids, I laughed my head of with them. He’s a stay at home Dad, lazy and sloppy. The only “Bedroom” scene was them as it was funny, husband to lazy to change sheets after baby spit up all over them. OK- now I can give an honest opinion, Except for Married Couple, from what I saw last night, the show is not that great, they jump to much from character to character, you can get “lost” trying to follow it. the “wild sex” except for the one who is casted as a very trampy charater (not well loved so I don’t think someone would want to copy her) going on and on about love life, there was nothing at all. Gabrielle need a little more coverage, and Susan’s top needs to show a little less of her bra. A lot of adult humor this show is not for children or teens at all. I also agree the time slot here should be 10:00PM not 9:00PM, I honestly did not like it, for me, and will return to NBC for my Law and Order:cool:

Oh, yes…b/c Law and Order deals with wholesome issues??? LOL – I’m not picking on you, I’m laughing b/c I like that show too, but they’re starting to go off the deep end with the sicko cases they show…I can’t even watch SVU anymore b/c it’s just too…depraved…I get sad and scared for my kids and on and on, so I figure I’ll find something more mindless to watch (like the housewives…LOL!) –

This is Law and Order Criminal Intent that is on at that time. I wasn’t looking for wholesome. I’m 49- no children at home, except an autistic teen who takes medication for sleep for several years (he’s in bed at 8:00PM) and he never watch TV doesn’t like it.(smarter then the rest of us;) ) I am only posting because so many people here on the boards and people I know claim its wrong yet never watched an episode. I just found it not worth my time, but if this episode is an example, I can’t really see the problem. Definately an adult show, but “porn” I didn’t see it last night. Now SVU-too over the top for me, no more, tired of watching women and children beaten and raped. Original Law and Order, I Miss “Lenny Briscoe!!”:clapping: Jerry Orbach was the root of the show

I think it was very admirable that you were willing to check out the show yourself rather than make generalizations about something you haven’t seen. Well done! 👍

I watched *Desperate Housewives *the 1st season, and loved it. There always seemed to be a comeuppance for the do-bads and the writing was great.
Since we’ve moved to CA, I haven’t watched because it comes on too late for me to stay up.

I have never seen the show, but I’ve heard that the house of one of the housewives is the same as one of the Cleaver family houses from “Leave It To Beaver”. Has anyone noticed this on the show? Is it true?

(LITB is one of my all-time favorite shows).

I just called my sister, she told me her name is Brey, she said she is more like June Cleaver in desperate need of a paxil:rotfl: very obsessive compulsive, control freak. A recent widow. The slap was to “control” MIL emotions.

Desperate Housewives is just about my favorite show on TV. After Lynnette (the one with the four kids) decided to return to work, there was a priceless scene with her interviewing for a new job with a snooty woman who didn’t approve of kids. It was really funny when Lynnette found her husband lying on the floor with a bad back, and she had to take the baby to the job interview with her. During the next episode, her stay-at-home husband was keeping the house like a pigpen, so Lynnette got a rat and let it loose in the house to teach her husband a lesson. The next day, she came home to a spic and span house and a story from her husband about how a rat started eating the sandwich on the floor.

Switching to another character, I liked the scenes that showed the rivalry between Bree and her mother-in-law after Bree’s husband had died. The Methodist Minister was a great example of Christian patience as Bree got into an argument about the funeral with her mother-in-law. It was very funny when Bree threatened to go non-denominational!

I like this show because every immoral act they commit seems to have a consequence. You can see the consequences of almost every action, just like the ripples when you throw a rock into a pond.

On the other hand, I get disgusted with shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Boston Legal. The characters just seem to climb into bed with each other like it’s just the normal thing to do, with no consequences at all. It’s enough to make me turn off the TV.

I agree. Although it is not for everyone, I like it. To me it does not promote fornication or adultery or pornography (or wharever other claims people who don’t like the show have made).

Unlike other shows that seem to have characters bed-hopping like it is completely normal and without negative consequence, I think this show dramatizes real life situations.

To each his or her own.

Desperate Housewives is actually the reason why I came back to the church. One hour of this show taught me more than 11 years of Cathoilic school could.

I remember watching an episode where a priest was talking to Gabrielle, and telling her that if she keeps up this affair and remains unrepented, then she will die in mortal sin, and if you die in one mortal sin you go to hell. Can you believe I didn’t know this?

I’m not promoting the show because it most deffinetly is not for everyone, and it’s not the most moral show on tv. But I have noticed that not a lot of things that happen in this show (affairs, sleeping around, murder) without consequences attached. And have you noticed that the only truly happy person in that show is Lynette? The only happily married woman. The woman who had an affair was always full of guilt, Eddie the neighborhood floozy doesn’t seem to have a lot of family or friends but just a lot of one night stands it would seem, Susan and her boyfriend (Mike I think) seem to fight and spend more time being unhappy then when they actually are together happily, Bree is just a mess. And the only person that seems to have a good life (although has her hands full a lot of the time) is Lynette, the happily married woman.

I think there is more to the show then what most people think, and I can understand why some people can’t watch it, because it isn’t for everyone, and I even feel guilty about waching it sometimes, but it’s better than most of the stuff currently stinking up the cable channels.

I started watching in the middle of last season. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it wasn’t all about sex. It’s about people dealing with life. Some are more moral than others just like in real life! And I have to keep watching because I have to find out who the new character has in her basement!

Now if you want to see a truly morally bankrupt show, try “Footballers Wives” on BBC America. I recently had a pang of conscience and stopped watching.

Actually I started this and said not my cup of tea, but my sister Cassie filled me in on a lot this week and I’m going to tune in Tomorrow night cause that “basement thing” and who is in there, has got me thinking What is going on??? heck, I can catch Law and Order in the reruns:D

Well, I sure hope tonight’s episode is a good example of what the show is about…all shows have the occassional “stinker”, lol…I just hope it doesn’t happen tonight.😛 Please let us know what you think of it!
