I posted about this a while back, but now I think we are in even more need of prayer. The parish that I had always been going to had its Dominican priests suddenly replaced with diocesan priests about six months ago. I am finally throwing in the towel and only going to that parish when I’m lectoring. (Obviously I’m still going to Catholic churches. I would be very insulted if anyone starts lecturing me about the Catholic Church being the one true Church or accuses me of being “liberal.” I know and believe the claims of the Church, and I will never switch denominations. Also, I’m against homosexual “marriage,” abortion, etc.)

So here are my revised intentions: Firstly, that the Archbishop will be replaced with someone who is a little more empathetic towards the faithful, and that the papal nuncio and everyone else involved will accept his resignation because I can tell he’s not himself and definitely needs to retire. (I hold no animosity toward him. Maybe I’m a little disappointed but that’s not important. I respect his position.) The archdiocese also needs help paying off various lawsuits.

Next, that the Newman Center will receive much needed funds, and that they will be used for something more important than painting the Church and the like. In general, I pray that God’s will be done. I just can’t imagine what would happen if this parish closed completely.

Finally, we are losing several people including some old friends to an extremely liberal Episcopalian church. I don’t want to insult any Episcopalians on here but I’m sure you would be annoyed if people started leaving your longtime parish for the Catholic Church. The woman priest there who is known for her homilies has a radical feminist streak and this is attracting some people, especially those who no longer want to give money to the archdiocese. Keep in mind these are some very smart people being tricked by her, whether she realizes she’s doing it or not. Here’s a lovely example from a homily that I found of hers. There was controversy surrounding a painting at an art gallery over a partially topless (she has her arms crossed over her chest) Our Lady of Guadalupe. The priest(ess) didn’t see why people were offended and said that people are clinging to an outdated image that is not at all “radical.” (Apparently a piece of art essentially drawn by the finger of God is not radical enough.) I managed to make a very weak defense for sticking to the Catholic Church with some friends but as usual I was caught off guard and just stated that the Pope is the most important thing for me, when I should’ve said that the Church was started by Christ, which is something that I can totally defend. So briefly, please pray that people will see the truth of the Catholic Church and come back and we won’t keep losing more and more. We even know someone who is not going to Mass at all anymore. Finally, please pray that I will be a better apologist the next time this comes up, and that I will get another chance.

PS,

This Episcopalian church is named after St. Michael, so don’t forget to pray for his intercession and the intercession of all the angels 😉

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
Amen.

and at the hour of death.
Amen.

St. Michael the archangel, defend us in battle,
be our protection against the snares and
wickedness of the devil. May God rebuke him,
we humbly pray, o prince of heavenly host, by
the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all
the evil spirits who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

I prayed for you. Is it possible that it wasn’t the archbishop who removed the Dominican priests? Since the Dominicans are under the vow of obedience, maybe they were called by their superior to serve another place. Especially if there are diocesan priests who may need something to do, it would be fitting for the diocesan priests to serve the diocese they trained for and the Dominicans to serve somewhere else?

I hope everything goes according to God’s will. I prayed that you may be able to stand firmly to be able to resist/fight against the struggles. I hope nobody else is fooled!

Thank you for the prayers! Unfortunately, it was the Archbishop. It was quite a controversy throughout the city and archdiocese. He announced last year that he was putting in diocesan priests, and obviously the Dominicans had to listen to him. I was quite used to particular Dominican priests being assigned to my parish for three years and then being replaced with other Dominicans, but this was something different entirely, and had nothing to do with their superiors.
