“predecessors” . . . in all it’s simplicity . . . means simply . . .
“whoever” . . . owned the property before . . .
Nowadays . . . here in the United States at least . . . in all 50 states . . . and every one of the multitudes of thousands of counties within those 50 states . . . there are meticulous . . . **court recorded **. . . and . . . **court maintained **. . . **legal land records **. . . which go back hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years . . . and in those records are . . .
“legal ownership Deeds containing legal descriptions of specific portions of land” . . . describing in detail and delineating the length, breadth, depth, mineral rights, etc. of each portion of land . . . and the ownership and transfer of same to any and all owners of that land . . . but this careful keeping and recording of legal descriptions of land records and chronological ownership of same was not something normally done in early times . . . disagreements and conflicts . . . even out-and-out wars . . . over land ownership among mankind are practically as old as time itself . . . and the above. . . very wise . . .

precautionary law . . . helped keep these conflicts . . . down to a minimum . . . even in researching . . . *waaaaaaay *. . . back in U.S. land records . . . you’ll find that landmarks were quite commonly used to dilineate property boundaries . . .
Normally . . . whenever anyone is going to buy . . . and/or build . . . on a portion of land . . . particularly when any considerable expense is going to be involved . . . it is not only prudent . . . but vitally necessary . . . to hire a . . .
professional surveyor . . . **to delineate and carefully mark **. . . the boundaries of the property . . . in accordance with the court recorded legal description of same . . . so as not to mistakenly trespass and build upon someone else’s property . . . otherwise trouble . . .
sometimes very serious trouble . . . may ensue for all involved . . .
Tax assessors also make their determinations . . . and assess legal land taxes . . . based on court maintained land records . . . legal descriptions . . . re the boundaries thereof . . .
