How about giving him a chance to correct his behavior before you throw him out? I would confront him (without a letter) and lay it on the line that he needs help and the abusive behavior needs to stop. I think he should be given the chance to agree to go to AA and correct his behavior without losing his family first.
I do not agree with telling friends and others that he is an alcoholic before you’ve given him a chance to correct the situation.
That being said, only you can assess how dangerous the situation is, and you are obligated to protect yourself and your children.
Good luck. I’m praying for you.
