Diaconal ordination to the Anglican Ordinariat

I went to the diaconal ordination to the Anglican Ordinariat of an Anglican priest I know today, Rev. Mr. Lee Kenyon of Calgary and another Anglican priest Rev. Mr. John Wright.

It was a wonderful service in the small but very “English” church of St. John the Evangelist in Calgary.

I sang all the songs I used to sing at assembly in the morning at school in England. And can the Anglican-Catholics sing - loudly, lustily and in harmony!

However as a Catholic in England I often felt like a stranger in a strange land (despite the fact that my family had ALWAYS been Catholic), but today I felt like two parts of my own spiritual journey were melded together and so I found the liturgy extremely moving.

It was a wonderful service, and the weather helped.

His ordination to the priesthood is on Saturday at the Cathedral.

You mean rather than staying in the ordinariate?

A bit of background. He was an Anglican priest, but when he and his parish decided to “swim the Tiber” he gave up his priestly role and title and became the administrator of the parish. A Catholic diocesan priest was flown in for mass and other sacraments.

He had to go through some formation to ensure his acceptance and understanding of the Church this side of the Tiber. He was very happy to give up his role as priest and had no rancour about being re-ordained as a Catholic. He came to believe that the Anglican Church had broken with the Apostolic succession soon after the reformation.

So, in our diocese we have both FSSP and Anglican Use parishes.

Wow! So neat to see “locals” here on this international CAF. I too am going to see the ordination of John Wright on Saturday. I live in Chestermere, AB and his wife and I are good friends and walking buddies here in Chestermere.

I converted from Lutheranism a while ago. Along with my husband and son.

I have heard that St. John’s (their “Anglican Use” Catholic Church) may, in the future, have Latin Rite Masses. Is this true? I really hope so, since the ONLY Tridentine Mass is at St. Anthony’s soooooo far away. There should be more than one in all of Calgary, don’t you think?

And I was looking for a new parish anyway, as the one out here in Chestermere seems to be run liberal/modern/unorthodox.

That’s really very interesting. We had an anglican convert in the Army serving as a chaplain. I didn’t know how they went about doing… you know, that whole bit. Thanks for the info!

I have heard that Fr. Kenyon will soon start offering Latin Masses using the Missal of 1962 later this year. Probably one weekday Low Mass; I would likely expect the Sunday to be exclusively the Anglican Use High Mass (which I absolutely love).
