I’m looking for information in the bible, where Jesus would have asked some people to follow him but that they refused. Also, where God asked people to “follow” and that they refused.

I’m asking to enforce the idea to someone that Mary had freewill That she didn’t HAVE to say yes when God chose her to become the mother of God.

I’m thinking, if OTHER people could have said no to God and to Jesus, then most likely, Mary could have.

PS: Also if possible, that they said NO without huge retributions from God. (that would be defeating the purpose of the freewill)

YES! their are those who refused. a Fmaous story in fact abotu a rich younfg man who said " what must I do to be saved."

I tis presetned below, from the Authorised Version.

Mathew, CHapter 19,

16: And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17: And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18: He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19: Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20: The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21: Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22: But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
23: Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24: And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
25: When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
26: But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

What about what my pastor calls “the Pig Gospel” When Christ took the demons out of the man and put them in the pigs and the pigs drowned.

When the Garaseans (sp) found out that happened, THEY asked Jesus TO LEAVE.

Not sure if this qualifies but Moses said no when he was asked to go speak to Pharoah. The scripture passages are provided below.

Exodus 4:10-14
Moses, however, said to the LORD, “If you please, LORD, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past, nor recently, nor now that you have spoken to your servant; but I am slow of speech and tongue.” The LORD said to him, “Who gives one man speech and makes another deaf and dumb? Or who gives sight to one and makes another blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Go, then! It is I who will assist you in speaking and will teach you what you are to say.” Yet he insisted, “If you please, Lord, send someone else!” Then the LORD became angry with Moses and said, "Have you not your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know that he is an eloquent speaker. Besides, he is now on his way to meet you.

Hope this helps…God Bless…

This is an interesting question and I can’t fulfill it with a yes. This Gospel passage comes to my mind though.

Jesus answered: He it is to whom I shall reach bread dipped. And when he had dipped the bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

And after the morsel, Satan entered into him. And Jesus said to him: That which thou dost, do quickly. John 13:26-27

Jesus commanded Satan and Judas to obey.

John 6: The Bread of Life Discourse
Many of his own disciples left him.

48
I am the bread of life.
49
Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;
50
this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.
51
I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."
52
The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us (his) flesh to eat?”
53
Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.
54
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.
55
For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
56
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.

**66 **As a result of this, many (of) his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.

We do know that Peter denied Jesus three times, but we DO NOT know whether Jesus was in earshot of actually ‘hearing’ Peter’s denial.
