Did confession change after Vat II?

I was just reading a memoir by the ex-communist Bella Dodd that someone linked in another forum. In it she comes into the Church, in 1952, instructed by Bishop Sheen. She got a provisional baptism because she wasn’t sure she was baptised as an infant. So then Bishop Sheen heard her confession and she unloaded her whole life to him.

When I was baptized in 1993, I was told to confess only what had happened since my baptism…one whole day before. I always thought this was really weird and asked about it here in AAA and it seemed to be normal.

Did something change in between 1952 and 1993 regarding confession? Frankly I wish I could have unloaded my whole prior life as well! 😦
 
Baptism removes all sin up until the moment when the person was baptised. However, this sacramental grace of baptism is given only once, therefore in this women’s case if she had been baptised as a baby the provisional baptism as an adult would have no effect on her sins, which is why she had to go to Confession. There has been no change on the Churches teaching on this.

Correct as Ter stated. Now during RCIA all Candidates (prior Baptism) and those Conditionally Baptized (which is done privately) are strongly encouraged to receive Reconciliation in the week(s) prior to their Confirmation and First Holy Communion.

Just a note however the Rite of Reconciliation did change some after Vat. II. The Churches teaching about the Sacrament of course has not .

Well it’s a book of a hundred or so pages. In a nutshell. How the Sacrament is celebrated and the environment in which the sacrament is celebrated.
