I didn’t really know where to put his thread, so forgive me if it’s in the wrong place. 😊

I had an odd dream last night. I don’t think I remember all of it, but I’ll give you guys the bits I really remember. I heard a voice say to me, “Don’t ever kill anybody ever… unless he is a snake…” I then saw a silver statue of a snake like creature that looked very evil. The sky was very grey and the ground was also very grey and dusty and rocky. I saw a verse out of the Bible keep flashing. It simply said Deuteronomy 5:4. Once I woke up, I immediately looked up the verse. It said:

“The LORD spoke to you face to face out of the fire on the mountain.” - Deuteronomy 5:4

I really don’t know if this dream was just my sub conscious being random and it happened to produce a dream like this. Or if this dream was actually from God. What exactly could this dream mean anyway? And why would God even come to me? I’m nothing special. I’m not a priest or a bishop. I’m just me. I’m just lay. I also only recently returned to the Catholic faith.

It’s the face to face part where your seeing a statue of a snake like creature that gives me pause. But that’s just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions…

I don’t think God would tell anybody, to kill someone.

First of all, we are all special to God, whether priest, nun, or lay people. He loves us unconditionally and desires our salvation. He created us.

You can always discuss with a priest if you feel the need to.

Welcome back to the Church!

Fr. John Hardon S.J (who wrote a Catechism for Mo. Theresa’s Nuns as directed by the Vatican), said in His Catholic dictionary, that if God ever speaks to one in a dream, that person will KNOW it is coming from Him, (such as St. Joseph did). You wouldn’t have to ask what it means. I wouldn’t put any stock in dreams, I have had some very scary ones, funny ones, some that make NO sense at all etc. God Bless, Memaw.

Is the dream telling you to be strong in spiritual warfare against the snakes (demons).

That would make sense.
And we all know Our Lady is the one who Genesis prophecied, would crush the head of satan.

Pray to Our Lady each day in response to this.

Sprinkle Holy water around your room before you sleep
And command in the Name of Jesus that all evil leave and never return. That’s how you block nightmares from the Bad spirit.

Next time you have a dream, be unafraid, repeat the Name Of Jesus, make a sign of the Cross, and say, “If this dream is not of God I command the dream to end now in the Name of Jesus.” And you will wake up immediately.
If the dream is scary say, “In the Name of Jesus, all evil has no power over me, in the Name of Jesus I am waking up now.”

Any rebuke given in Jesus Name the bad spirits have to submit to, and submit to the authority of Jesus in your rebukes.

Either it was a dream, from God, or from satan.

But, God can bring Good out of everything, and anything if you offer it to Him

A statue in the Bible symbolises idolisism, like the golden bull the Israelites made when Moses was up the mountain.
The snake symbolises satan.

Do not kill, that also brings up Jesus command, “You have heard it said, do not kill, but I say to you, whoever hates his father, holds something against his brother, or calls his brother a fool, is liable for the judgement of Hellfire.”

Deuteronomy:
God spoke to Moses from the burning bush, “Set my people free.”

Are you being asked to pray that Gods people get freed from the above mentioned sins, and battle in prayer the snakes and demons that are tempting people,

Also, one Saint you should pray to is the Irish St Patrick, whom legend says cast all the snakes from Ireland,
(not literal snakes, he cast out the snakes of paganism, of false deities and cast out rather the evil spirits from Ireland).

It seems you are being asked to combat paganism through prayer.

Or
Is the dream telling you: that there is idolisism in your life of something, or unforgiveness, or hate, or a grudge, or name calling (As Jesus has shown hurtful name calling is a grave sin).
Or is God asking you to pray for these sins in the world, for Mercy.

Dreams are the editing floor of our minds (which is why we must be quite careful of what gets put on the “tapes” of our mind).

While God can use this mysterious function in our own heads to teach us, normally we will understand, or have someone in our life to interpret them.

I have had 3 dreams I believe were sent by God, all I can say is, for anyone who has had one, they know how different these dreams are, one way I noticed, you never forget any of the details, other dreams, they are usually forgotten by lunch the next day.

If you do not know, how would anyone else know? Nobody can tell you for sure unless they have some kind of gift like Daniel of The Old Testament. It would only be a guess. Do not put too much stock in dreams. We all dream extremely weird dreams every once in a while. If God really was telling you something in a dream, my guess is that He would make it certain to you that He was telling you something you need to know. Why would He say “I am going to give ThePhilosopher6 a dream in which he will not be sure it was from me and let him struggle trying to figure out out”

This is a special dream. Are you considering a job in law or theology? Or perhaps are already a lawyer.

The dream is fairly direct. Your are being given instructions to kill silver snakes. A snake is a speaker of false things, lies, deceptions. Silver can represent legalism.

Deuteronomy 5:4 is just before the revelations of the Ten Commandments.

To kill a silver snake then in this context is to kill false doctrines that attempt to teach contrary to the laws of God, which when are transgressed lead to the spiritual death of men. Thus since you are a “man” or human being God is calling you to live his laws so that you live and also help to live a good example so that by your conduct or the speech of your intellect you lead to no ones spiritual death. Remember there is a difference between what God considers death and what we consider death.

God is calling you to defend the ten sommandments in the legal system or through understanding of theology/catechism.

Interesting. I do have studied theology a lot and have returned to the Catholic faith recently.

Yes, I can attest to that, real dreams from God are quite recognizable, they are MUCH different than normal dreams, its not really something that can be described or broken down into terms, you just have to experience them to know what Im talking about.

Ive had a total of 4 such dreams in my life and to this day, I can vividly recall every single detail about them.
