Dear Apologists,
I was told that Pope Gregory VII wrote a document headed “Petra dedit Petro, Petrus diadema Rudolpho” in crowning Rudolphus. This is in a “petra=rock=Christ / petros=pebble=Peter” debate I have with my Adventist girlfriend who offered this as evidence that Peter was not THE rock of Matthew 16:18.
I have read that the claim may not even be true. But besides this, resorting to other parts of the Bible, and pointing out the violation of Sola Scriptura on her part, how can I as a Catholic explain what Pope Gregory VII allegedly wrote?
