I used to watch this anime series with provocative/pornographic imageries. I’ve decided to not watch it anymore last year. Today, I allowed my curiosity to get a better hold of me and I looked for the release date of the next episode on Google.
After about 3 minutes of searching for the release date, there were inappropriate ads that I didn’t want to see and I averted my eyes. Then I closed the browser to not be tempted anymore knowing that searching for the release date was a bad idea. I didn’t watch the said anime.

Did I commit a mortal sin that needs to be confessed?

Hello!

It’s good that you ceased from looking or allowing yourself to possibly lust after provocative imagery. I’m happy that you are following a different path to virtue. As for your question, it is my belief you did not fully give in or allowed yourself full consent to willingly sin. You may have been tempted and or took a baby step, but were convicted not to do so by your spirit.

I would encourage you to devote yourself to chastity or finding custody of the eyes. Our Blessed Mother and Her Rosary are wonderful ways and roads to travel for the pure life.

I digress, as I am not a priest (hoping to be one someday) I would hope that if this does not sate your curiosity in regards to a moral and ethical question, take it up with your confessor and be honest.

Ave Christus Rex!

imo, you gave in to the temptation and placed yourself in a near occasion of sin. Partial consent, as you averted your eyes when inappropriate ads appeared and then closed the browser. You could have looked, but instead chose not to. For a mortal sin to have occured full consent is needed.

If it is bothering you, then you could confess to willingly placing yourself in a near occasion of sin (as we are supposed to avoid these), but where no sin occurred - judging by what you said happened. If you are scrupulous, then the best advice I can give you is to speak with your priest about this and be guided by his advice.
