Did I commit theft?

On a recent visit to the local hospital I noticed that someone had left lots of copies of The Watchtower magazine in the large main waiting area, but only on the tables in corners where someone passing through casually would not notice them.

I confess here and now. I collected up every copy of the magazine and brought them home and stuck them in the recycling bin.

How serious is my sin? Or does the fact that I protected others from the influence of the Jehovah’s Witnesses counterbalance my act?

Ok - I am not being too serious here. In any case, I don’t think religious tracts and magazines are meant to be left in hospital waiting rooms, especially not without permission (which wouldn’t be too likely there)

I’m not really sure. If it was theft it wasn’t a very serious one for sure. I know for sure that those magazines mustn’t have actually been paid for. They get sent there. I very much doubt that the hospital would really mind it that much anyway. But hey, morality is subjective so what can I say?

I say that a man must be certain of his morality for the simple reason that he has to suffer for it.G. K. Chesterton

I don’t believe you committed a sin.
Next time, gather them up and bring them to the receptionist desk. The receptionist will discard them for you. You were correct to assume the watchtower didn’t belong in a hospital waiting area.

I actually snatched up one of those magazines from a Catholic hospital’s waiting area. It was a while ago but it had a picture of Mary on the cover so I could see how it could mislead a Catholic into reading it. Went straight into the trash.
I do that when ever I see one. I also took a Jack Chick track left on an atm machine for the same reason.
The hospital I’m sure does not pay for those magazines, I’m pretty sure someone just left them there. I never thought of it as stealing.

Basically the The Watchtower magazine is a spiritual time bomb wrapped up in a teddy bear outfit, waiting to find its targer in those lacking discerment. In the spiritual warfare battle, you did correctly. I never knew of a disseminator of such false religion material to ask permission of their target population/institution permission to leave their propoganda in their backyard. Good job! Your to be commended. :clapping:
