Did I sin by receiving the Eucharist in the the state of mortal sin??

I was committing what I understood to be a mortal sin. In confession my priest told me I should not omit communion even if I sinned again. He thought that I needed to know that I was valued by God despite my sin. So I received. I didn’t feel right about it but I wanted to believe in God’s unconditional love for me and to trust the priest. Did I commit a sacrilege?

Hi,

You didn’t sin because you were obeying your confessor who had no right to tell you such a thing. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (#1415) states: " Anyone who desires to receive Christ in Eucharistic communion must be in the state of grace. Anyone aware of having sinned mortally must not receive commuion without having received absolution in the sacrament of penance."
