Did Jesus have a sense of humor?

I heard it said in a group of Catholics that Jesus had a sense of humor. They said quite adamantly that they could not imagine him without a sense of humor, and they referred to the picture of “The Laughing Jesus.” I said that we should be careful about giving human, sentimental attributes to Christ, especially if there was no basis for it. After all, God created us in his image. I find this very Protestant.

Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully man. As man, he has all of the attributes of human beings, including the capacity for humor. It must be said that some human beings seem not to have a sense of humor, so it can’t be said that every human being has a sense of humor. But since those who don’t usually do not because of some personality imperfection, it seems safe to say that the wholly perfect Christ likely does have a sense of humor.
