Chapter 20 of the Gospel of John also disproves that Christ rose on Saturday.

taken from the Douay-Rheims

1 And on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalen cometh early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre; and she saw the stone taken away from the sepulchre. 2 She ran, therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith to them: They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.3 Peter therefore went out, and that other disciple, and they came to the sepulchre. 4 And they both ran together, and that other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. 5 And when he stooped down, he saw the linen cloths lying; but yet he went not in.

6 Then cometh Simon Peter, following him, and went into the sepulchre, and saw the linen cloths lying, 7 And the napkin that had been about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but apart, wrapped up into one place. 8 Then that other disciple also went in, who came first to the sepulchre: and he saw, and believed. 9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. 10 The disciples therefore departed again to their home.

11 But Mary stood at the sepulchre without, weeping. Now as she was weeping, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, 12 And she saw two angels in white, sitting, one at the head, and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been laid. 13 They say to her: Woman, why weepest thou? She saith to them: Because they have taken away my Lord; and I know not where they have laid him. 14 When she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing; and she knew not that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus saith to her: Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, thinking it was the gardener, saith to him: Sir, if thou hast taken him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

16 Jesus saith to her: Mary. She turning, saith to him: Rabboni (which is to say, Master). 17 Jesus saith to her: Do not touch me, for I am not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brethren, and say to them: I ascend to my Father and to your Father, to my God and your God. 18 Mary Magdalen cometh, and telleth the disciples: I have seen the Lord, and these things he said to me

Okay here is the problem not read the scriptures correctly when she looked in the tomb was empty…he was already risen.

MATTHEW 27:5The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

John 20
The Empty Tomb
1Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him

I understand why you would take exception to the things I have said because you probably were brought up in the catholic church. I too was brought up that way but upon learning the truth turned and embraced it.

.
What truth?? Are you saying the Catholicism doesn’t contain any truth?? Yes I was born and raised Catholic as was my Dad and my Grandfather and so forth. My Grandfather, Grandmother and Uncle separated from the Church in 1972 and was severely deceived by the Pentecostal cult. To this day my Uncle and his wife condemn those who don’t believe what Pentecostals believe, to hell. You tell me why I don’t have truth in being Catholic, the Church started by Christ in 33 and is our supreme head. Yes Christ also sent the Holy Ghost and made Peter the first Pope. Fact remains Chapter 20 from the Gospel of John disproves Saturday as being the resurrection of the Lord. Saturday didn’t become the first day of the week. Sunday did.

Couldn’t read your quotes. Words too bright. Words changed from bright yellow to black. Yes those signify that he has risen. It doesn’t prove that he rose on Saturday or Sunday.

Huh??? we’ll have to agree to disagree because you’re angry and assume i said you don’t have truth I said that the 10 commandments say the remember the sabbath and keep it holy. the sabbath is not on a sunday which is the 1st day of the week but the 7th day which is saturday. research it, that’s all.

Christ was already risen when the women went to the tomb. This does not indicate He arose on Saturday by any means. Remember too that Sunday would have began at sundown for the Jews. If Christ were to have risen on the Sabbath, it would had to have been prior to sundown - in the daylight or dark early morning of Saturday.

Someone else wrote:
“The problem with your statement and the whole belief that Jesus was crucified on a friday is due to the fact that there is a lack of research and can be resolved by just reading the scriptuers.”

No, that’s not true. The belief came not only from the words of St Paul and the elite Jews’ request to Pilate for sealing the tomb UNTIL the 3rd day, (which I don’t think you have addressed), but also from the writings of the early church fathers.

To hold to the false notion of Wednesday thru Saturday Passion, one must:

A) Concede that the biblical writtings of St Paul are in error, thus accepting the bible contains error.

B) Accept that the scribes and pharisees had no clue that Christ actually intended His
3 day & 3 nite prophesy to be taken literally concerning the time frame.

C) Disregard every referrence to Sunday resurrection made by the following church fathers. IF you disregard these mens’ teaching on this MOST important aspect of His ministry, how can you possibly consider them a reliable source in other matters?

D) Accept the (false) teachings of contemporary men and reject the centuries old teachings of the only Christian church (“schismatic” Catholics included) that existed prior to 1530.

Is this really you?

90 AD DIDACHE: But every Lord’s day do ye gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions…

c100 AD BARNABAS: Wherefore we Christians keep the eighth day for joy, on which also Jesus arose from the dead and when he appeared ascended into heaven.

150 AD JUSTIN: But Sunday is the day on which we hold our common assembly, because it is the first day of the week and Jesus our saviour on the same day rose from the dead.

Please note here Justin writes in clear and undeniable fashion He died on Friday; rose on Sunday:
150 AD JUSTIN: We all make our assembly in common on the day of the Sun, since it is the first day, on which God changed the darkness and matter and made the world, and Jesus Christ our Savior arose from the dead on the same day. For they crucified him on the day before Saturn’s day, and on the day after (which is the day of the Sun) he appeared to his apostles and taught his disciples these things.

150 AD JUSTIN: …through the resurrection from the dead on the first day of the week of Jesus Christ our Lord. For the first day of the week, although it is the first of all days, yet according to the number of the days in a cycle is called the eighth (while still remaining the first).

250 AD IGNATIUS: "… no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord’s Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him … let every friend of Christ keep the Lord’s Day as a festival, the resurrection-day, the queen and chief of all the days of the week.

250 AD CYPRIAN: The eight day, that is, the first day after the Sabbath, and the Lord’s Day."

300 AD EUSEBIUS: …they were accustomed to observe the Sabbath and other Jewish customs but on the Lord’s days to celebrate the same practices as we in remembrance of the resurrection of the Savior.

Well Dave i never thought or stated that Paul was incorrect nor do I think he was. But according to you that would mean that Jesus was incorrect when he said in Matthew 12:40
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. Jesus states in Matthew 26:2
“As you know, the Passover is two days away—and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

I’m sorry but Jesus was crucified on a wednesday afternoon, before sundown. If you beleive that like it states in Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. There is no way that anyone can hold Paul to be truthful and our Lord and Savior to be just using a figure of speech. Or believe that Esther is truthful but not hold to Christ’s statement that in

Christ rose on saturday evening. In those times the days weren’t mark as we mark them. They marked the days as God did from sundown to sundown. So wednesday evening to thursday evening is 1 day, thurs evening to friday evening is 2 days and friday evening to saturday evening is 3 days. The 3rd day He rose.

So apparently I am to choose between the following:
  1. The Jews at and shortly after the time of Jesus who were the beginning of early Christianity knew that “three days and three nights” was not a literal statement of time and taught the day of the crucifixion as Friday. Therefore Friday is correct.
  2. The Jews at and shortly after the time of Jesus who were the beginning of early Christianity knew that “three days and three nights” was a literal statement of time and taught the day of the crucifixion as Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday (take your pick depending on which splinter sect you follow). At some point before 150AD the vast majority of Christians changed it to Friday. Somehow such a MAJOR change happened without a single recorded heresy behind it. Never mind the recording for posterity of every single heresy in the early Church from Judeo-Christians to Judeo-Gnostics to Nicolaites to Docetae to Cerinthians to Ebionites to Marcionites to Encratites to Montanists to Manichæans to… There just wasn’t one for this heresy. Accept it.
Call me crazy, but I’ll go with the first option.

“Well Dave i never thought or stated that Paul was incorrect nor do I think he was.”

Four sentences later you seem to be accusing him of lying…
“There is no way that anyone can hold Paul to be truthful …”

If you believe Paul is lying, or even just made a mistake, you must accept that the inspired word of God contains an error. If there is even just one, (notwithstanding your Esther comment), you must concede there could be many. Christians cannot do this.

But according to you that would mean that Jesus was incorrect when he said in Matthew 12:40"
No, not at all. As I’ve stated before, “three days and three nights” was a manner of speech in those times along the line of our contemporary “a few days”. However, the people of that time obviously knew EXACTLY the timeframe Christ spoke of as evidenced by the learned Jews only asking Pilate to seal the grave “until the third day”, rather “until AFTER the third day”.

What of Justin Martyr’s words? Was he lying? And the other church fathers? Deceived or lying?

sorry but i’ve never heard of these people. can you enlighten me?

sorry but i’ve never heard of these people. can you enlighten me?
Sure. They are the early Christians from whose writtings much of Catholic doctrine and belief is derived. Even the name “Catholic” comes from the writtings of St Ignatius from around 60-70 years after His death. I think it would be safe to say that Catholic “tradition”, which some Protestants think unimportant, comes from these writtings as well.

Back to Sat or Sun resurrection - As you have alluded, unless one considers some Christians’ observance of Sunday resurrection unbiblical, disrespectful or sinful, I don’t think it really matters which day any of us believes is the day of His arising. The fact is, He made the perfect sacrifice for us, and this is what each of us rejoices in and gives thanks for.

God bless you and yours

Oh okay, God bless you and yours also Dave and thanks for the chat.
