Did Jesus say his second coming would be soon?

I recently came across Matthew 24:34, aka the Olivet Discourse and it sounds like Jesus was pretty much saying that some of his disciples would live see his second coming before they died. Also, in Paul’s letters, he seems pretty convinced that Jesus’ second coming is near, and even urges people not to bother with getting married for the end is coming. However, as we know, the Second Coming hasn’t happened yet, so I’m wondering how to interpret the Olivet Discourse?
