Why would Jesus pray to God if he was God?

Also was Jesus ever worshipping God?

But why? I always thought the father and the son were equal? Like co-eternal?

Yes, they are. Jesus has always been eternal and equal with the Father (and the Holy Spirit). From eternity they have been in perfect communion and eternally in communication with each other, like another thread was discussing. Remember in Genesis, when God says “Let Us make man in Our image…” This is a mystery for us, how the Trinity is one and three separate Persons at the same time. But we do know they love each other and are in communion.

So that didn’t stop when Jesus was on earth. He was still in perfect communion with God the Father and would spend hours in prayer. Talking to God the Father was as natural as breathing for Him, and I think He was not only refreshing His soul but providing the example for us of what to do and how to live here on earth…by taking everything to God in prayer, as the hymn says. That’s why He taught us the Our Father…it was for our example. He wanted to teach us how to worship God and depend on Him alone. Jesus did nothing on His own but what the Father revealed to Him, but they had a perfect communion since Jesus is also God. I can’t explain exactly how that worked, since it’s divine mystery how Jesus was fully God and fully man. I’m sure others can explain it much better than me.
