One protestant friend of ours states that associating with the dead is sinful… and the only way we are able to do so is through witches. He then goes on to say King Saul talked to a prophet(saint) through a witch. How would a witch help King Saul talk to a saint? And why would someone in heaven contribute to someones sin?

Heaven was not open to the righteous yet. He was in the land of the dead and not Heaven, and was not yet a saint.

He makes this claim with absolutely nothing to back it up. That may be his opinion, but it’s not a biblical fact.

The witch of Endor used dark arts. The dark arts are forbidden. It was sinful of Saul to request this, and he and his army perished the next day.
And why would someone in heaven contribute to someones sin?
a) The gates of heaven were not open. This was not a saint in Heaven.
b) Who says it was actually Samuel?

There are various interpretations of this including that the witch used trickery not sorcery, and that the witch summoned a demon who took on the appearance of Samuel.
