Did Luther repent?

I do not think Luther sinned by removing himself from the Church.Look at the state it was in!Simony, Pluralism, Nepotism, and lots of other injustices. It was brave of him to do something about it.However, I think it was a much better course of action to not be removed from the Church, but to stay in it and change it, like those who stayed Catholic did.I also strongly disagree with many of Luthers Doctrines, but thats just how he chose to interpret the Bible.

Good Fella:
Luther did say, “We must remove the Decalogue out of sight and heart.” [De Wette, lV, 188)
Probable Source: Luther as cited by Patrick O’Hare, The Facts About Luther (Illinois: Tan Books, 1987), 311. For an actual context, see here.

Good Fella said:
“If Moses should attempt to intimidate you with his stupid Ten Commandments, tell him right out, 'Chase yourselves to the Jews.” [Works, Wittenberg, ed. V 1573]

Probable Source: Luther as cited by Patrick O’Hare, The Facts About Luther (Illinois: Tan Books, 1987), 311.This quote is from the 1525 treatise How Christians should regard Moses. For an actual context, see here.
Good Fella:
Luther has been quoted in saying that sexual sins are “necessary”
?
Good Fella:
and he did grant Philip Land-grave of Hesse a second wife by appealing to the Old Testament and ignoring Christ’s words on marriage and divorce. I would shudder walking into a Lutheran parish.
Luther’s final comment on bigamy was thus: “that if anyone thereafter should practice bigamy, let the Devil give him a bath in the abyss of hell.” For an overview, see here.

Sure, Luther was short-sighted, scatological, venomous, and political to the bone. Lutheranism, on the other hand, exists distinct from its founder.
Are you saying that the tree is not known by its fruit?

I have read several articles on this Protestant apologetics site and each one thus far has illustrated much ignorance in Catholic beliefs. Hence, I would be wary about what the writers say with respect to Luther’s controversial sayings.

Pax vobiscum
Good Fella

Yeah me to, I don’t trust those links either. The guy who wrote them clearly knows little or nothing about Luther, I just thought i’d share them in case someone was curious about how to look up the quotes you posted.

I think providing the links was just a sneaky way of increasing traffic to your site, TertiumQuid, since nothing in your earlier post indicated that the links lead to your blog. Nice one. I fell for it. 👍

Eden,

Another conspiracy! You caught me!

Actually, I really don’t care if anyone reads my blog. I don’t have anything to sell (like many bloggers), in other words, there is nothing “in it” for me.

I provided the links rather than cut-and-paste the material because of time constraints, and word limitations here at CA.

I’m sure though, you will find some way to turn this into a dastardly deed of evil.

A little warning next time about where your links lead is all that I ask. At best, one of us might get a computer virus. At worst, we might end up reading James Swan. :ouch:
