Mt 5: 31-32 and Mt 19: 3-9. The King James version I looked up appears to have added the words fornication or immorality to justify a divorce when Jesus is clearly not allowing it. It is nonsensical for Jesus to say that what God has joined cannot be separated but then again it can if you sin. Let’s get out of our commitment to God and spouse by sinning.
It also is circular. It is not okay to divorce my wife if there is no fornication but if I do so and remarry then it would be adultery therefore okay (not the adultery but the divorce).
When were these words added to the Bible?
Also, in my Catholic Bible the parentheses (unless the marriage is unlawful) seems to be added to permit annulments. This is odd but it does not drastically alter the message. When was this added?
It appears in the Douay-Rheims and Vulgate, and other versions of the Bible.

(Etheridge) But I say unto you, that whosoever looseth his wife, except on account of fornication, maketh her to commit adultery; and whosoever taketh her who is sent away, committeth adultery.
