St. Elizabeth said: “What is it that the mother of my Lord comes visit to me.”

St. Mary is the mother of our Lord.

The sixth commandment: “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”

St. Mary and God the Father were the parents of Jesus the Messiah.

St. Mary and God the Father are married, one has to be married to have children.

Do some people actual think that St. Mary committed adultery?

Or, how is this addressed in the history of the Church. In other words: “What is the relationship of St. Mary and God the Father?”

Actually, I believe that the Holy Spirit ("The Spirit shall come upon you, and overshadow you. Therefore, the holy offspring to be born shall be called the Son of God. . ") is the spouse.

Mary and Joseph were bethrothed. They married but never had marital relations (to this day such a marriage is a “Josephite” marriage and is a marriage in good standing). Joseph is foster father of Jesus. Joseph was a human “proxy” for God, Joseph cared for the Child and the Blessed Mother.

Remember, there is no “marriage” in heaven in the sense of “marriage” on earth. Marriage on earth is a union of two people, the two “Flesh” becoming one. Since God is a pure spirit, His union which resulted in the Incarnation and Jesus’s hypostatic union, was not a “union of flesh” and while certainly good and moral, did not mean thereby that Joseph’s marriage to Mary then became adultery.
