Did the Blessed Mother die?

Sin has (somehow) given rise to death and disease. The Blessed Mother was conceived without sin. What does the Church say about her leaving our plane of existence? (Other than her assumption into heaven.) Does it make sense to believe that she didn’t die?

The Church hasn’t definitively ruled on the matter one way or the other. Eastern Christians generally believe that the Blessed Mother did not die but fell asleep (called the Dormition) and then was assumed into heaven. Western Christians generally believe that the Blessed Mother died and then was assumed into heaven.
