Did the darkness exsist before the light?

In Isaiah 45:7, God says that he forms the light and create the darkness. In Genesis 1:2, darkness covered the Abyss. In Genesis 1:3 God said let there be light. In Genesis 1:4 God sees how good the light is and separates the light from the darkness.

Does this mean that the darkness exsisted before the light? Does Genesis 1:4 infer that at one time the light and the darkness co-exsisted?

Darkness is the absence of light. To have darkness you must have space and a being with eyes. These did not exist before the creation. You take it from there.

I think the abyss is God’s wisdom and judgment.

Our darkness covers His light.

Our darkness is our limited human nature and our sinfulness, original and personal.

The light comes from the Second Person of the Trinity.

God gives His light to His creatures, angels and humans.

We receive His light and thus we are separated from our darkness.

His light is a freely given gift to us.

I am addressing Genesis.

I am not sure what Isaiah is telling us in the passage that you quote.
 
Before our baptism, we are in darkness.

When we are in Christ, we are separated from the darkness.

Verbum it could also be taken deeper meaning that the Angels “fell” and created the darkness and out of this darkness The Father brought into being the plan for “mankind” and further on the “light of the world” His son.
My understanding is that scripture is shallow enought to a baby to wade in and deep enough for an elephant to swim in.
