Did the pharaoh drown in the Red Sea?

I was watching a show on the Military Channel and they said his mummy showed no evidence of drowning

I think they were talking about Merneptah I…not sure if that was the one in the bible or not

Are Catholics obligated to believe he drowned?
 
I was of the opinion that most people believe that he survived, watching his troops get swamped from the Egyptian side of the bank. (That would also be the way the famous movie The Ten Commandments portrayed it.)
 
the show was called Ramses: Wrath of God or Man?

Has anybody seen it? I didn’t see most of it.
 
It seems as though Ramses II had a long life - accounts range between 90-96 years.

In those days, a long life with the ailments the Pharaoh had, and no modern medicine, a long life was more of a punishment than a boon!

Ailments he may have had, but they didn’t appear to slow him down a whole lot. Most scholarship states he had upwards of 100 children.
 
Psalm 136: vs 15 may indicate that Pharaoh was also hurled into the Red Sea but it depends on the translation you’re reading. Some say hurled, some say overturned. I’d think that if Pharaoh was killed at the Red Sea more would have been made of it, both at the time, in the canticle recorded in Exodus, and in the Psalms.

For a start, despite Mr. DeMille and the generations of filmmakers after him, we don’t even know who exactly the pharaohs of the Exodus were in the first place. 😃
 
According to the scripture in several places Pharaoh was drowned with his army in the Reed (Red) Sea, there were no survivors (many try to argue that these passages don’t explicitly say pharaoh drowned, but they do). This is one of the reason that Pepi II at the end of the sixth dynasty was the pharaoh of the oppression and his successor the one who died in the sea. see

I have heard from some evangelical preachers that a few Liberal Theologians believe that the Red Sea incident happened in an area where the water was only ankle-deep. Then these same preachers laugh and say it was a miracle that Pharaoh’s army drowned in 6 inches of water!:rolleyes:
