Did this priest mess up?

I was at Mass today…not my usual parish, and after consecration, etc…right before the Priest receives the Eucharist and he usually says, “This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, lucky(happy)(blessed) are we who are called to his supper”…ok, that is how it normally happens when I am at mass…but today, the priest said, “This is the broken body of Christ…” I took great offense to this and did not feel it is appropriate…was I wrong? FOr one thing, the Body of Christ was never broken…he fulfilled the prophecy of the old testament where it said his body would be pierced, but would never be broken…therefore, I do not feel it is proper to say “the broken body of Christ”…in addition to that, I have never, ever heard those words spoken at Mass and I am wondering if this is an abuse.

Maybe someone should develop a rating system for liturgical abuse. You know, something like: Changing the words of consecration would be a 10. Saying “Good morning!” before the initial Sign of the Cross would be a 1.

I’d give this one a 2. Annoying and inappropriate, but not as bad as some.

I don’t think they can say “lucky” either. :nope:
 
Happens a lot.

Sometimes, I have heard the priest go on such a tangent that the congregation didn’t know when to reply “Lord, I am not worthy…”

Technically it’s an abuse. The words to be said at that point in the Mass are specific, and the priest is not given the leeway to change them. Sometimes the rubrics will say that the priest says this “or similar words” but not in this case.

As has already been noted, this is a minor liturgical abuse on the scale of what has been reported in this forum.

Could it just have been an accident?

Just as my dear old Priest sometimes gets my name wrong, even though he’s known me for years.
