Hello all,
recently, I was tempted in thought by an old sin. While part of me longed to do it, At the same time, I felt literally nauseous. It was thus far a unique experienc, anyone else have this happen?

Hi “trailius” 👋 Yeah, I think this probably happens to most people. It’s the enemy, making another cowardly attempt to get us to sin. Your response could be to say an “Our Father”, a “Hail Mary”, or a “Glory Be”… and then, ignore it. God bless you.

When you are tempted by these memories, pray for forgivness for the times past when you entertained them.
Satan won’t be long in running if he realises that his efforts to tempt you are in fact becoming occassions of prayer!
Be at peace and realise that all those faithful to the Church are experiencing the very same things.

I think OP was talking more about the feeling of nausea than being tempted by an old sin. That has never happened to me (the nausea part :p).

traillus:

Yes… have had very similar experiences.

Hey,

I definitely have had these sorts of experiences- nausea included. I think it’s a natural visceral reaction to some of the more immoral and impure habits of my past now that I know the Truth.

When it’s a fleeting moment, I usually recite a few hail mary’s. If it’s serious… break out the rosary!

God bless.

Yes I have. You know you’ve made some progress away from sin and in your love for God and greater understanding of and living our Catholic faith. As you continue in the path recommended by our bretheren, including adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, sometime later you may encounter the same occasion or be confronted with it, and your response is no desire to do it and just feel nauseous and are repulsed by it. It’s an occasion for joy, but obviously not pride. We are doing no more than we ought, and still have room to grow.

I wish I would feel something on my journey…let me just say that my religious experience has always been completely free of any sort of feelings. No warm fuzzies after Communion, no nausea when faced with sin, no nothing. No, the closest I get to anything like that is the relief I “feel” after coming out of the confessional. It’s discouraging at times, but I still manage to keep trucking.

Sorry, I don’t mean to derail the thread. These are just some thoughts I’ve had lately and this thread seemed to touch on them. :o

Yeah, once or twice I’ve felt … don’t know if I’d say nauseous but definitely a physical fear reaction … when tempted by certain sins.

When I was single, many, many moons ago, in the military, especially when assigned overseas, I often lost control of myself, plunging face-first into ultra-rowdy partying, waking up the next day ashamed of myself. I’d retreat back to a quiet, uneventful lifestyle, until the following weekend, and then destroy myself all over again. I was incredibly wild, and did things that actually frighten me today, whenever I think about them. Eventually, I came to hate that part of myself. It possessed me, as a demon would. I don’t miss any part of those days, even though at the time I considered what I was doing ‘fun’. I thank God I survived my young adulthood. It was much, much worse than my rather unhappy childhood.
